I think this about says it all http://www.cityam.com/218722/charlton-owner-roland-duchatelet-sells-standard-liege
It's pretty sad that all the real long time Charlton fans on here even have to consider this rubbish. who cares about Standard Liege FFS. I couldn't care if the whole Belgian league goes bust today. The entire country is nothing more than a line on a map, regularly disputed by its two more important neighbours. It's a sign of Charlton's gradual genetic mutation under RD that this crAp even has to be considered.
Are you saying that France is important?...... surely not? It's biggest export seems to be immigrants
To be honest Royston, it affects us only as in he is our owner too, and as a business man, you tend to look at what the knock on effects will be for us. To be honest, I doubt his policy on CAFC will change. While some on CL have expressed a hope that he will now pump money into us in an attempt to send us into the prem, I see no sign of a change in his initial policy of steadying us into a mid table championship side with reduced expenditure and a new pitch. The Joe Gomez thing paints a very clear image of his visión of Charlton. Why would a millionaire need to sell a potential prospect for the money Gomez is supposed to have raised? I suppose because the millionaire in question plans to keep his millions in his bank account.
i think the gomez thing was what RD would call a punt. for 3.5-6m he can easily buy one or two top level championship defenders. bauer is supposed to have cost £1.5-2.5m. i think he could go all out to get us up, but i dont think it would work as easily as he thinks it should. usually to get up you need a steady team for 2 or 3 years. he doesnt have the patience for that.
Not to mention, look at teams like Cardiff, who spent £66 million (of which is owed to Vincent Tan) in the past and failed to get out of the Championship. Albeit they managed the following season. I think that this coming season Cardiff will be a team that would be in the relegation zone; fighting it. I'm not Doucébags favourite fan, and not overly fond on him. But I really cannot see him pumping in more than we make, given that we can get fined under the FFP regulations.
They relaxed it, but take QPR and Cardiff that are posting above £15million losses. They will be fined. I also know that either this season or last, Manchester City was deducted a number of players that they were able to field in their champions league matches.
The trick is to find someone with billions burning a hole in their wallet. And Onest Arry is now available to help spend it.
