QPR will pay tribute to the class of 1975/76 this coming season ...

  • Club to pay tribute to 1975/76 team throughout the coming season
  • Special Stan Bowles Day scheduled for August 22nd
  • QPR in the Community Trust Gala Night will be a showpiece event
QPR have had some great teams over the years, but it is universally accepted amongst the R’s fan-base that the finest-ever side assembled at Loftus Road was the class of 1975/76.
Under the guidance of Dave Sexton, Rangers missed out on winning the First Division title to Liverpool by a solitary point.
The flair of the team, and its style of play, attracted admiration from not only QPR fans, but followers of other clubs as well.
Gerry Francis’s stunning goal in a 2-0 win over Liverpool on the opening day of the campaign was voted Goal of the Season, and epitomised the team’s entertaining brand of football.

MAVERICK: Stan Bowles was one of the stars of the 75/76 team
And when it came to entertainment, Stan Bowles was at the heart of it all, producing one sublime performance after another.
With the 2015/16 season marking 40 years since that campaign, the club will be remembering the side with a host of activities and events, including a special matchday dedicated to Bowles, who has recently been diagnosed with a form of Alzheimer’s.
• Reunion Gala Night
The club will be hosting a QPR in the Community Trust event in London, which will include a Q&A with members of the 1975/76 squad.
• Stan Bowles Day
The club will be holding a special Stan Bowles Day when Rotherham United are the visitors to Loftus Road on Saturday 22nd August. The date coincides with the 40th anniversary of the day Rangers won 5-1 at reigning Division One champions Derby County – and Stan scored a hat-trick!
• Matchday Tribute
Squad members and staff from 1975/76 will be invited back to Loftus Road as guests of the club throughout the season and presented to the crowd
• Matchday Programme
The matchday programme’s front cover will be modelled on the design of the 1975/76 publication, while it will also carry a special commemorative section inside
• Online
Our official website and online TV channels – QPR Player and YouTube – will be running features on that incredible season, as well as interviews with squad members of the 1975/76 campaign
Full details on the above activities and events, including the Stan Bowles Day, will be announced in due course.

Fantastic news, the club recognising the positivity this will create throughout the club.

Perfect tribute to the great Stan Bowles. Aug 22nd would sell out now if it was available.
 
agree great move by the club. We needed cheering up after last season. We should always look after the ex players especially if they were players like Bowles.

Brucie Bonus for anyone who can tell me the name of the player center back row standing to the right in photo of Don Givens. I thought initially it was Ian Evans but not sure now.

Ah, 75/76, a perfect vintage - if only they could bottle what that team had a give it to our current crop of players. That was my first Season at LR, love at first sight!
 
One other thing....although the squad photo shows the players wearing an adidas strip, we actually wore a kit made by umbro that season......

Still like that adidas kit........

I think it's Tony Tagg but not certain. Inf act we used so few players that season that apart from Thomas, Givens and Beck I'm struggling with a few on that row......they didn't get to play much.
 
Now you say that Stan think you're right......

Far left is Don Rogers, he may have left before season started because I don't recall him playing at all.

I think the other 2 are Pritchard (?) and Westwood.....neither of whom I can remember playing that season.
 
I booked flights for me and my boy for the Baaardiff game yesterday. I was originally going to go for the Rotherham game (better chance of Sky not changing the match day), but Mrs Totally pointed out that she had already booked something else on our calendar.
I would really love to be at the Stan Day<wah><wah><wah>
 
Great news & even if it is just a response to the sad news about Stan, I don't care!

Parkes, Clement, Gillard, Hollins, Webb, McClintock, Thomas, Francis, Masson, Bowles, Givens, Leach, Shanks, Abbott, Tagg, Nutt, Eastoe. My dream team!

With apologies to anyone else who appeared that season & I've left them off my list! Beck & Delve being possibilities.

Must admit Terry don't remember Eastoe playing that season............had to look it up on Wiki.....signed March 76 with Don Rogers going back to Swindon as part of the deal, he didn't play for the remainder of season but played from the 76/77 season onwards.......
 
I thought he had come on as a sub at the end of the season, but at my age the memory plays funny tricks!

Perhaps he was an unused sub at times if Mick Leach was in the starting team?

Anyway, I'm in dreamland thinking about that side & the football they played!

It all started with this.....

I have all the games and stats written by hand that season ......I think from a poster from Tiger and scorcher or possibly Roy of the Rovers..........can you believe we only used 16 players all season........................apart from the obvious 12/13......Ron Abbott, tony Tagg and Phil Nutt played a few. Shanks, Eastoe, Busby did not play................imo they started the decline.

When I state by memory the the one to eleven it never includes Mick Leach!!!........as Hollins seemed to always get the Number 4 yet Leach played 30 plus games.................

Martyn Busby never recovered from the horrific double leg break he suffered at Fulham.
