kenny Miller is happy that he is the first man to play for three Old Firm clubs and anticipates
even bettering that by playing for four before the year is out. A world record never to be matched.

I am only looking at the situation through the huns eyes, they have very little history and most
    likely a very short future.
Its only fair that we don't rub their noses in their filth.

blog on the glib and shameless one. great first comment

    http://mattleslie74.weebly.com/blog/be-careful-what-you-say

At most points in our lives we'll say something one day only for us to say or do the opposite in the future.

Inevitably someone will point out the contradiction and usually you are left red-faced.

For most of us, the matter will be of a trivial nature and will hardly change the course of history.

Or lead thousands up the wrong path even.

Which appears to be what Dave King is doing right now.

As keen-eyed observers of politics will tell you, the easiest task for a political party to fulfil is to be in opposition.

You can palm yourself off as the light at the end of the tunnel and easily get on board wavering voters to back your vision.

They do so and you win power. Now comes the hard bit.

All those pledges telling everybody of how you will take them to the promised land didn't get as much scrutiny when you were in opposition.

After all, you were hardly in a position to put it into practice.

That's a ruling body's job and you were not it.

Now that you are, you're in a spot of bother.

You have to put your promises into practice because if you don't, your new mates will turn on you and put some other usurper who has pledged to bring El Dorado into their living rooms in your place.

This is where we currently find the Springbok answer to Stephen of Blois.

And if Dave King doesn't start making good on his promises, like Stephen, he may soon face anarchy on the marble staircase.

King was very vocal in opposition.

In fact, you couldn't get him to shut up.

Forever pointing and prodding at the previous Rangers board, King spent a considerable amount of time caricaturing himself as the white knight who would ride into Govan and save the day.

Credit where it is due - he pulled it off.

Taking full advantage if the old regime's unpopularity, King was able to persuade many fans to drink the kool-aid and 'believe'.

So, how about putting into practice and fulfilling 'die groot skema' as they say in your beloved Transvaal Dave?

Let's cast our eye back on some of the things he said prior to winning power.

This blog in previous entries has already discussed the failed NOMAD plan and the de-listing of Rangers from the Stock Exchange.

But there are other things which seem to have slipped the convicted tax evader's mind.

In February 2014, Dave King was quoted in The Herald as saying:"Any club must, over the long term, operate within its means, but in the short-term Rangers needs a significant once-off financial boost that cannot be met from the current revenue stream. Without this, we will not get back to where we should be. If we cut our costs to suit our present income, we will remain a small club and Celtic will shoot through 10 in a row - and beyond - while we slug it out for the minor places"
So how are we getting on with that then?

You remember what he said when he swanned into Glasgow the day before the EGM which saw him seize the paper crown? From the Scottish Daily Mail in March 2015: "I will provide the funds 50/50 with other investors to take this club forward again. It’s difficult to say how much. I would think £20million in the short term. I am concerned about some of the comments I have heard more recently that there are other areas of the club where money needs spent on as well, but it will probably be north of £20m in the short to medium term"
    North of £20million.

The same man who recently pleaded with fans to buy season-tickets in droves in order to give the club a financial boost.

Yet the £20million seems to be taking its sweet time in finding its way into the Ibrox coffers.

Either Dave's local Western Union branch in Johannesburg has made a cock-up of wiring the money over or this was just all front with nothing of substance to back it?

Let's go on. Again from his Daily Mail interview of March 2015."There are a number of things we will have to do over the next couple of months because the club is in bad shape. It depends what it means by turning the club round. Stage one, and in a very short period of time, has got to have Rangers as at least the No 2 club in Scotland, which they clearly are not at the moment. That can happen very quickly. Thereafter, financially, the gap between ourselves and Celtic will take a longer period of time. Being a solid No 2 and back into the Europa League is something I will imagine happens quite quickly"
Admittedly, with the last available transfer window of the 2014/15 season closing before he took over the club, King was unable to strengthen the squad.

Nor was the fact that they failed to get promoted after a thumping play-off defeat to Motherwell.

But letting his mouth run away with him like that with promises of 'quick returns' and 'Europa League' only fuelled expectations which he could offer no guarantee of fulfilling.

As it is, his team now face an extra year in Scotland's second tier and it is possible that Hibs and St Mirren could ensure a third stint there.

Once more, from the Daily Mail interview:"This is genuinely a chance to get the club going forward. We offer transparency and accountability, and at least give fans a road forward. It might be tough, it might be long, but we know where we are going. I know the difficulties people have had over the last couple of years, with the changes in direction - or complete lack of direction. The issue is taking the club forward in the next couple of years. The fans have to come back and the club has to be more successful. We have to start getting European income"
That last line is very revealing.

King was quite possibly banking on promotion to happen last month because other than winning next season's Scottish Cup, the earliest Rangers could qualify for European football would be 2017.

And who knows what the bank balance of the club will look by then like if they do manage to achieve this.

For a man who has 'north of £20million' to pump in, why hang so much on playing in Europe a.s.a.p?

A big sum like that would keep other clubs ticking over without having to worry too much about not qualifying.

Celtic probably would be miffed at not being in Europe but you would think an injection 'north of £20million' might make that bitter pill easier to swallow?

But mega-bucks King seems very keen on it to happen very quickly.

You would think he needs the money.

As for his transparency pledge, this snippet from The Herald back in February 2014 is interesting

Pay attention to the bit highlighted in blue.

He did have every right to question the old regime about who 'Blue Pitch' and 'Margarita' are.

After all, two shareholders who hide under faceless names do raise a suspicious eyebrow and inevitably such secrecy leads to people wondering what their motives are.

However, that was then and King was not in control of the club.

    He is now.

So who are the people behind 'Blue Pitch' and 'Magarita' Dave?

Surely you are now in a position to tell us?

    You did promise transparency.

    So how about it?

    No answer?

OK, as you asked of the last board, why won't you reveal the identities of the shareholders behind 'Blue Pitch' and 'Margarita'?

And how about a full disclosure of finances as well.... like you demanded from the last board.

You see how easy it is for the coin to flip once you graduate from being in opposition to being in power?

Only 'being in power' is a bit of a misleading term given the deflection and prevarication coming from Ibrox.

Maybe Dave realises he should have stayed on the sidelines shouting from afar.

Because when kings are eventually usurped, it isn't always a pretty sight.
