Osvaldo's character suggests that he will never return here. I don't think he does conciliating gestures and I'm not sure Les Reed does either. I think we should cut our losses and sell him cheap....he isn't worth the stress of dealing with him. Unhappy employees take up far more time than happy ones.

For what its worth, I think Sterling will improve and will be a great player. I don't think the price tag will affect him. He carries a sort of confident innocence that gives me the impression things like this float over his head; seems the type of player who is unaffected by this type of thing, and for what it's worth, I think he's doing the right thing. Why should he be bullied into staying somewhere he doesn't want to stay? Maybe his ambition is bigger than staying at Liverpool. He's not from Liverpool for a start, so maybe what he was really angling for was a swoop from a London club. Problem is Man City now put too much money on the table, and will probably hijack that particular plan (if it was ever a plan). His attitude problem doesn't to me seem to stem from the same place as that of a Nile Ranger or Ravel Morrison; it seems to be that he doesn't fancy being pushed around, and wants to do something simple like move jobs. But is being blocked on all sides. I don't particularly rate him any higher than others of his ilk (though he's clearly an excellent player when on form), but can see him pulling through this, and getting better. Think Sterling (or someone) is making some quite bold decisions.

Managers don't always know what's best for an individual, and on a much smaller scale, look how Ian Holloway (in conjunction with others involved, like Paul Ince) held back the careers of Matt Phillips and Tom Ince by jealously guarding them at the sinking ship that was Blackpool. They either barred them from moving, or touted them way too high, and now Ince looks likely to sink back to the Championship, after he couldn't even get in the Hull side. Phillips admittedly finally came good at QPR, but is back where he came from too. Am certain that would not be the case if they had come to us - Phillips would probably have an England cap by now.

Managers aren't responsible for players' careers, but for the club that employs them. Perfectly understandable that a manager would try and keep a good player at a struggling club. The manager's job depends on the club's success, not on an individual's career. After all, we kept hold of Morgan...that was certainly not for his good.

Yes, but what Sterling is trying to do is fight both, and I don't see why he shouldn't be able to. He'll likely improve when he's somewhere he is happier at. Look at his form when they were actually competing the season before last, and how it dropped off when he realised what a crap unit he was a part of last season.

What are you trying to say...that we are not the bestest team in the known Universe and possibly beyond that. Shame on you. :) (<----note smiley).

What Sterling is trying to do is take a short cut to success because he doesn't believe he can achieve it where he is, and isn't prepared to give his current club a chance.

    Exactly what Adam Lallana did.

Surely I'm not the only one to think Sterling isn't worth half of the speculated £50m? He is a good player with high potential, but £50m is what you would pay for a proven world beater, not a youngster that is far from the finished product.

Have to pay top whack to get a player away from a big club....look what Liverpool had to pay to get our players :)

Their new signing is Liverpool's 2nd most expensive player after Andy Carroll!! They aren't much good at this lark are they, but at least they will make a profit on Sterling. Feel sorry for Carroll....he had no say over the price paid for him, yet he is viewed as a failure compared to his cost.

Fernando Torres as well, cost Chelsea £40 million from Liverpool and was nowhere near as good for them. But Liverpool want the same for Sterling as they got for Suarez last year, which is ridiculous.

Fair comment. Sterling is of interest only because Rodgers seems determined to replace him with Clyne.

Struggling with a Heineken and Rum related sense of disorientation with the world this morning along with a painfully slow old laptop at home. I saw mention of Arda Turan in talks with three clubs yet only seem to be able to scroll (eventually) to further chat on Sterling (who is never worth £50M on the basis of his poor finishing). Rant over. Tetley is restoring balance to the world.....

    I agree with that.
It's not a given, that Sterling will improve at a bigger club, as there is no guarantee that he will get a lot of game time. Add to that, what appears to be a flawed character - the drug smoking and IIRC assaulting his girlfriend - he has the potential to disappear up his own ego.
Selling him to Citeh for £50m, would be good business, for the bin dippers.
