Kewell: Why Milner is a smart signing 20th Jun 2015 - Latest News please log in to view this image please log in to view this image Author: Chris Shaw @shawct Harry Kewell sees Liverpool's agreement to bring midfielder James Milner to Anfield as a smart signing given the Englishman's experience at the highest level. The pair crossed paths at Leeds United as the former's time there was nearing an end while the latter was beginning to break through into the first team. Since leaving Elland Road himself, Milner has moved to Newcastle United, then Aston Villa and ultimately Manchester City, where he won two Barclays Premier League titles. Next month he'll join the Reds, with a free transfer switch in place - subject to a medical - for the 29-year-old to bolster Brendan Rodgers' squad. "I think it's a good signing," Kewell told Liverpoolfc.com. "James obviously came through when I was at Leeds and I always knew he had that kind of talent. "He's got that grit between his teeth, first and foremost. He's got that hunger and desire. "Obviously when he left Leeds he played for a few other teams and he did well, but he didn't get to the potential that I thought he could have done. "But then going to Manchester City, he kind of just rose up that little bit more and put his name back up there to being one of the best England players again. "For Liverpool to snatch him up, I think he's going to do wonders. "I think he can come in there and get respect straight away off the players because he's been there and done it - he's won titles, so he knows what it takes. I think that's a smart signing by Brendan to bring in, to hopefully help the team." Tagged: harry kewell , james milner , kewell , milner
Great signing. Another young, talented CB to play once, then let rot in the reserves before being loaned out and eventually sold
Reds complete Joe Gomez transfer 20th Jun 2015 - Latest News please log in to view this image please log in to view this image Author: Chris Shaw @shawct Liverpool FC have today completed the permanent signing of England U19 international Joe Gomez from Charlton Athletic. The 18-year-old defender has penned a long-term deal with the Reds to seal a switch to Anfield from the Championship side. Gomez made 24 appearances in all competitions for Charlton last season as he made an assured step up to senior football. Capable of playing in a central position or at full-back, the Londoner represented England U19s on three occasions during 2014-15. Upon signing his contract with the club, Gomez told Liverpoolfc.com: "It's a dream come true. It's a bit surreal and it hasn't really hit me yet. But I'm buzzing and just excited to get started. "The club has got great history and it's a great club, and one that I've always been following from when I was young. "The style of football and the top players here was somewhere that I wanted to go and get better and learn, and play good football. It was an easy decision." The youngster follows midfielder James Milner, striker Danny Ings and goalkeeper Adam Bogdan in agreeing summer moves to Liverpool.
So that's the first team ready, commanding, experienced physical presence at CB that we all crave sorted then. FFS Instead of pissing about with loanees why can't they go and get hold of some actual quality Same **** happening all over again people
Sounds like a very exciting prospect. Be interesting what happens to him this year. After playing 25 games in champ last year, a year in our reserves won't help so he'll either need to go out on loan or be goicen chances in the first team in cups or Europe. seems like he's a big strong quick CB who is a leader at the back. Been a while since we had a young English CB come in and challenge for a place. Nice that we've got a bit of work done recently (and all home grown) for not a lot of money which should leave quite a bit free for couple of bigger signings. Would still ill like to see us start shifting some players though. Not much movement out yet
We've had two, but they never got chances in that position; Kelly was a CB but only ever got chances at RB (hence injured, look at the size of that beast!) and Wisdom is a natural CB but again, only ever shoved out to RB. Then we've had Coates and Ilori since but neither have had a look in apart from Coates one/two cameos but really, he needed more time that than to at least show something! I don't hold any hope for Gomez to get much of a look in here. He'll be shipped out on loan and then lost and sold in a few years.
Borini's agent has said he wants to leave and they thought he'd get more chances at Liverpool Hello, what ****ing bubble were they living in that his treatment last season was a surprise?
