I don't think we need a marquee as such seeing as we've proven our ability to find alternatives who are generally as good if not better than some high profile names but it would be nice.

To name some that are in the realm of possibility i would say Weidenfeller, Dost or Huntelaar

Edit: Beaten to it by Saintsfan86 :)

That's exactly what Saints have said they don't want to happen, hence the ultimatums given to Clyne; Re-sign or bog-off (for an acceptable fee). Someone will take him for 15 million, because a) it's a bargain, and b) if they don't, they risk losing him to a rival club should he be allowed to leave for free. Regarding 'b' in particular, I'm astonished that Liverpool haven't put up the money yet, cos he will not go to them next summer.

Here's my feeling about Clyne. I think he will remain here for the next twelve months.

That's the feeling I get also. He wants to see out the last year, play for England next summer & pick up the best wage/location to his own convenience. The lad seems good at working these situations.

I was just pointing out it had shortened already, so is already less likely than the OP saw it at.

Can anyone point out the relevance of the transfer window dates? How are all these teams, including us, signing players before the window officially opens?

Legally binding contracts have en effective date. I imagine it will be set at midnight of the day the window opens

So why can't we be signing and announcing players all through the season, as long as contracts start within the window date? And we don't see anything similar in the January window.

Woah - sleaze! I think he's mixed up his 'I've just signed for Saints' face with his sex face. Or maybe they provoke the same feelings for him?

One positive of the possibility of Clyne moving to Liverpool. It means we can dislike them even more. Everyone enjoys a good pantomime villain...

It does happen and more often that you'd think. Utd signed Depay before the end of the season. Luke Shaw agreed a deal with Utd last summer whilst the papers were still saying he was going to sign for Chelsea. Generally players will have agreed terms with the club prior to a formal agreement so there is no need to rush through the contractual element.

We did exactly that last year with Elia. We announced the signing on 23rd of December but contract didn't go into effect until the window opened.

The transfer window is more of a registration window, clubs can talk and make deals all year around (including illegally approaching players and pre-agreeing terms!) but they can only officially make a signing and register a player when the windows are open. You could announce a signing whenever you like but announcing mid season that players are moving is a little gauche when they still have games to play for their current club.

If you have your car on hand travel down the coast a few miles to Anderby Creek. More like a continental style beach with just a cafe and uninterupted sands with fewer people.....that is unless you actually like the noise of arcades and the great unwashed fighting for their space fuelled by lager.

Anderby Creek reminds me of the beaches in Portugal minus the hotter climate and with the addition of traditional English coastal winds.
