Three for me. All Ryan Moore ridden. All have decent shouts. It's not often i can say i expect all three to win but i do so could be egg on my face by 6pm tomorrow. 2.30 Ballydoyle - had my eye on this ever since i saw it's name on debut. Ran a fair race and will improve as per Aidan's normal practice. Yard, trainer and jockey all on fire and i expect this horse is going to be very good. The operation have had this name for a while and it's no coincidence they've given it to horse with this breeding. I expect it to dot up. Backed up by Ste's good word for it today. Very confident. 2/1 4.20 Due Diligence - ran a cracker in second last year behind Slade Power. Obvioulsy will have to contend with a greater weight this time round as he's only 4. However, the podcast have reported he's running daft fractions at home and i think 9/1 is a great bet each way. This has been the target since last years race and a hard run 7f last time out will put him spot on. 9/1 5.35 Wicklow Brave - obviously been laid out for today and will run a belter. The price is currently horrible and for me it's one i'd usually just watch. However, i think this is an absolute certainty and will be making a bit of an expection. Will wait for the end of toads racing before placing this bet as i'd be hopeful of some 7/4 somewhere when more books open.
ASCOT 230- Ballydoyle 15/8 Started off in a Curragh maiden and was beaten well enough by Miss Katie Mae who then followed up in her next race but this horse is named off the operation and if ever they were going to strike with it it would be Royal Ascot. 15/8 is a little short but im willing to hope that Moore and O'brien have a few more winners left in them. 305- Mahsoob 2/1 I know this is a big field handicap and 2/1 is a short price to take but we are looking at a group horse here fellas and I cant see anything touching him, only danger is the jockey who im not overly keen on !!!! 340- Telescope 5/4 Turning into a favourites day but how can you not be impressed by this horse this season, got beaten on its first run where it tied up when sent on to soon. Won this by 7 lenghts last year and i think a repeat is on the cards 420 Brazen Beau 10/3 Australian sprinters coming to Ascot, i've seen this before and we all know what the normally outcome is. 500 Intrinsic 14/1 Runs well after a break and is drawn well as i think high numbers will have an advantage here and with Hughes booked he could have a decent chance but this really is wide open so it could be a stick a pin race. 535- Wicklow Brave 11/8 Moore/ Mullins, won his 2 flat starts with ease, only danger will be Buick but i think even he will be playing for 2nd with this horse in the race.
14:30 - Ballydoyle 15:05 - Mahsoob 15:40 - Telescope 16:20 - Brazen Beau (Nap) 17:00 - Intrinsic 17:35 - Wicklow Brave Best advice I can give is to back the 3 Moore mounts that I haven't picked
Without meaning to offend anyone surely BALLYDOYLE is the very definition of a 'mugs bet' in the first? Will be backed due to the name its been given and the bullishness from the 'lads' and not much else? Of course the counter argument is its being trained by Europe's top flat trainer and it must be good with that name...Expect it to piss in now Anyway, I'm occasionally partial to a mugs bet and may even join the bandwagon tomorrow And I'm probably just being overly cautious as pretty much any O'Brien nag I've touched this weeks been beaten Really disappointed at how short WICKLOW BRAVE is, really had him down as my bet of the week but like Bob I was hoping/expecting a better price. Hopefully we'll get 7/4 somewhere enhanced tomorrow morning.
Whilst i wont be backing her, the horses 2nd and 3rd from Ballydoyles opening run have come up and won since also to boost the form.
I like pretty much the same as everyone else too Ballydoyle Mahsoob Telescope Wicklow Brave Trebles and an Acca for me
I tried to place a yankee with betfair sportsbook on tomorrow's hotpots and it wouldn't accept the bet. My stake was not high at all so it's not like the punt was massive. I rang the customer service and they were rude and very unhelpful. I usually use paddy power or skybet whose service is great. Anyone ever encountered anything like this before? Betfair have lost a customer not like that matters to them but still very odd.....
You've probably just gone over their automatic risk control Exotic. They all have them. Most bookies will restrict a bet the night before the racing if the payout is over a grand as standard practice but if you're doing well on a particular account you'll most likely get restricted to much much lower than that. Sounds like your winning money from Betfair Sportsbook but giving it back to Skybet and Paddy.
The obvious bet for the casual Ascot race goer tomorrow is the Ryan Moore treble on Ballydoyle, Telescope and Wicklow Brave. All short prices and if the first two go in Wicklow Brave will be going off odds on in the closer.
Just the one for me on the last day of Royal Ascot, and I'll be taking on that rogue Telescope. 3:40 - Postponed. His recent form is looking decent now after the performances this week of The Grey Gatsby and to a lesser extent by Western Hymn. The step up in trip will definitely suit him. Telescope is a horse I'd never be in much of a hurry to back, inconsistent and can't be trusted. Ryan Moore on board will make sure he goes off at silly odds, I just couldn't be having him, makes him all the more easier to oppose
Thanks Bob might be right! I agree Postponed has a great chance and good form but Telescope was just immense in this last year. On firm ground he excels. I can see Moore being canny and kicking from the front and then forcing him over the line even though Postponed may be a better horse overall.
I watched Ballydoyle's first run as I was expecting them to have given this name only to a decent animal. I must say however the horse was very poor and never looked like winning at any time.
Glad that I did not put the bet on Warrington on Friday – neither they nor Hull KR will be winning anything this season. Punters looking at the Ascot card should wait on the weather. It has been watered for the last three days so if it rains the ground will be false and the card should be avoided. Money staying in my pocket today at Ascot as there is no decent bet on the card. Here are the ones to avoid: Chesham Stakes: Tonkinese (no bet, do not touch two-year-olds at this meeting) Wolferton Stakes: Ayrad (no bet, do not do many handicaps here) Hardwicke Stakes: Telescope (no bet, too short a price) Diamond Jubilee: Brazen Beau (no bet, too short a price) Wokingham Stakes: Algar Lad (no bet, do not do many handicaps here) Queen Alexandra: Wicklow Brave (no bet, this is just a NH bumper!) No surprise that there is such modest racing at the other venues even though it is Saturday. Half of the races only seem to have one horse with any form and the small fields make the betting unattractive. I will have to dig into the few races that are worth investigation to see if I can find a decent bet...
telescope apparently is inconsistent and not to be trusted? 12 runs 5 wins 6 seconds 1 third Wish I owned the horse or my tipping figures were as inconsistent and untrusted. Its a horse not a machine. Seems a tad harsh. Cue a pumping today
Surprised you never mentioned Telescope in the 3.40, would you oppose him? I guess lots of punters will have Ballydoyle, Telescope and Wicklow Brave in trebles. And some will have all of Ryan's rides in multiple bets! Question is, will be break Fred Archer's record of 12 winners at Royal Ascot in 1878? Good thing Big Mac isn't on Channel 4 Racing or he'd go on about the stats and bore us all! Even though Wicklow Brave is difficult to oppose IMO in the finale, Oriental Fox has got to be worth backing each way even though he's making his seasonal debut. But fitness shouldn't be a problem as he's trained by Mark Johnston. Ran well in last season's Ascot Gold Cup, you can get 8/1.
Sterling Work (half-sister to Eleanora Duse) has the unenviable honour of being Ballymacoll's first 2yo runner of the season. The last few seasons have seen this debut resulting in the horse not being very good. Don't believe Ballymacoll have had a first-time out 2yo winner since Scottish stage in 2005. He has been mentioned on the gallops though and I can see him being E-W value in the capable hands of Steve Donahoe.
