I'm glad we rejected 40m.

Anything above that and I'll be happy. 45-50 please. I know he's not worth that much but the potential he has isn't worth giving up unless it's around that amount.

Thing is danilo his potential won't win us **** all and his still being a Liverpool player if he ends up staying won't attract any big name players to sign for us.

We should accept City's new offer before they sign Willshere or another replacement signing instead of laughing gas boy.

It's not so much that his staying will attract players, it's that his leaving will turn off players from signing for us. He's supposed to be the golden boy, the future of British football. You and I know that at his current level and with his current attitude he won't be either. But he's got this reputation we've been building up for a good 3 or so years as our future. Selling your future is never seen as a good thing. It's not ambitious.

Sterling does have loads of potential. He has games where he looks unbeatable. Others where he looks like SWP. Is he worth 50m? No. But selling for less means we are willing to compromise our future for a quick profit.

Sterling's an odd player. He's clearly got the talent and the skill. He's at possibly the only club that will offer him the atmosphere needed to reach his peak. No other club would sit through his weak finishes, his poor decision making, etc. No other club would let him come back to the first team after say, an ACL tear. Any other club that would is either no better than us or worse. If he stays and kicks on, he can get to Neymar levels of skill. And yes you can all quote me and laugh and say how deluded I am.

But that being said, we have two ready made replacements with very similar levels of talent in Markovic and Ibe. Both suffered from Sterling having his choice of position. Both can kick on and overtake his development were he to leave. And were he to leave, our current squad would not be significantly weakened.

So for me, the transfer comes down to the sum at which I would take the risk of replacing him with Markovic and Ibe, and giving up on his potential. And that number is 45-50m.

I can see your point/s and understand your point of view, but there are rumours of unrest in the dressing room because of him and should he accept a short term extension to his contract with a massive pay rise until it runs out other players at the club will want their slice of the money cake to increase likewise.

He's bad news imho and should be got rid of asap.

And I see yours. I agree with it. Deep down inside I want him to go. I hope someone coughs up the 50 and its done with.

I have no doubt that if he leaves for City he will be desperately trying to revive his career in a few years once they buy a 40m Spanish replacement who can sell more shirts.

But we shouldn't be stupid in the market. Just because we want him out doesn't mean we have to take less than what he's worth to us.

Are you blooming serious?

What difference is £45m to £40m already offered? that difference will all be swallowed up by the increased prices demanded by sellers who will know our budget!

Get rid quickly or it will blow up in the club's faces!!!

It is just so ****ing depressing at the start of the season. Two of the best players in the premiership leaving in 12 months: Suarez and now Sterling. It only remains for Coutinho to leave to complete the whole slide.

The difference is the money QPR don't get and the boost it can give our FFP. It also helps us send a message which is worth more than 5m. We complain that no one wants to come to Liverpool, well of course not if we aren't savvy in the market. If we sell our star players for less than what they're worth. People see it as a sign of weakness and lack of ambition.

And how would this blow up in our faces? Sit him down on the reserves bench until he sobers up. We don't need him. Isolate him from the rest of the squad and that's it. We aren't pressured to sell. He holds no bargaining chips.

It doesn't work like that. A disgruntled player is worse than having no player. In a year's time, his value will have decreased. Is the club prepared to write off tens of millions just as a matter of principle?

Sterling is young and is no Suarez, who only played one way. Giving 100% in every match. Sterling on the other hand needs approval and to be loved and if constantly criticised or booed will underperform.

That looks like a contradiction to me.

The minute you put him in the stiffs he'd devalue by the day. By the time the Christmas window opened you'd have torched a damn sight more than the notional £5m. I say notional as it doesn't matter a fig what you might claim he's worth, he's actually worth what another club is prepared to pay.

If he's still a Liverpool player come 1st Sept, then you'll have monumentally ****ed up seeing as there was a deal that was worth £35m + £5m in add ons on the table.

Is Sterling really one of the best players in the premier league? He is young and has potential but if you were picking a squad of 23 players to represent the premier league I don't think he would be in it

I genuinely believe that if we haven't shifted Sterling by the end of the summer he will sign a new contract. Not doing so would mean he would

a) still be in protest mode, and jeapordise his career as a result. no one will want him next summer if his wretched form continues
b) be on 35k for 2 years, instead of 100, a decision that would cost him 6-7 million.

City will pay though, just you wait.

That looks like a contradiction to me.

I explained why he's both a star and replaceable at the same time. It depends on the message you send with his sale. If you sell him for too little, it's giving up on our future. If you sell him for enough, it's worth giving up because he's not likely to reach that potential elsewhere.

You have a point but I doubt it would get that far. He'd be in protest mode for a month max. He loses too much himself to realistically devalue by the day. In my personal opinion (and it appears to be the opinion of the club as well) 40m is not worth it, while the aforementioned 50m is. There's a midpoint that the club's valuation will be met. City will pay, just not right away.

I assume by this you think he will not get the game time at another club?
