We obviously need;

1) GK - Back up
2) ST - Bony replacement

Most would agree we need;

3) LB - Someone to push Taylor for the 1st team



Anything else we do seems to be dependent on who we let go....with the obvious possible departures being;
Jazz / Tiendalli (or both) - Both have been used as Utility players. Both primarily cover RB & LB. Both are in the last year of their contracts.
I would keep Jazz myself but there has been reported interest from the Championship.
Michu - If he can't be used for whatever reason he will need to be either;
1) Sold
2) Loaned
3) Paid off


Personally I'd probably sell Emnes as well and replace with a forward who could do a job on the wing.....or perhaps Barrow could be that player.
I see Emnes as an AM, but I believe with Siggy, Shelvey, Routledge and even Ki as options there we'd be better off with either a 3rd striker or a winger.


In ideal world I would sell 3, buy 6 and keep Jazz as my utility player....
my shopping list would be;

1) GK - young and quality...Kristoffer Nordfeldt?
2) ST - Bony replacement
3) LB - Franck Tabanou? or similar
4) CM - Creative type...like Alexandru Maxim? (takes Michu's spot)
5) WG - Left footed (takes Tiendalli's spot)....Andre Ayew? Ola John? (right-footer though)
6) ST/RW - ST would be 3rd choice, young, could play on wing also (takes Emnes' spot)...Luc Castaignos?
...if Barrow is ready to play up front for us in an emergency he could fill this role, in which case I would instead look for a RW good enough for the 1st team.




The wildcard: Gomis
I thought he'd be a poor signing given his age and cost.
Then I saw him early on and thought he was quality.
Then he had a sulk about playing 2nd fiddle to Bony / Not settling (whatever, take your pick).
His performances were ****ing awful, lazy, selfish.
Then Bony goes, Gomis and his agent stop trying to engineer a move and he starts to turn in some quality performances again.
Last game at Palace he looked like he couldn't be bothered again.

Who knows whether he'll be here next season, what his performances will be like, whether he'll go back to being 2nd choice and having a sulk again....anyone's guess.

He has a lot to do to win me over but if he wants to play for Monk in this team and has the right attitude he is a good option who I'd like to see compete for his place with a new striker....we either keep him and ensure we have a 3rd option up front (I don't like Emnes up top, not sure whether Barrow could be that option) or we sell him (probably at a loss) and try to replace.

Worried about - Ki, Shelvey, Siggy, Monterro, Fernandez
I'm reasonably confident 4 or even all 5 will stay with us but I do have real concerns over Fernandez. He's class and bigger clubs will come calling for him.

Probable leavers - Leon, still think he'd suit the MLS.
Jazz, too good to bit play, not good enough to start. He needs to go for his own good so he can develop into a prem FB I know is there.
Michu the grey has gone already I've been told. Allegedly he wouldn't come back for talks with Monk. Don't know about this as he does attract rumours with little substance but fekk him if it is true. If not, and his head is straight, I'd give him his chance but personally I don't think he's capable enough to play to our system week in week out. I doubt he'd be a regular starter if he stayed so I think he's destined for Qatar and a link up with his old mukka.

Incoming
Striker - ?? no ideas really.
After a second glance Loic Remy would be a great signing but more than likely we'll get another 'blue sky' signing non of us has heard of before. Latest name in the hat is Stefano Okaka Chuka, who???

Winger - Ayew looks more and more likely. Hope so he looks fantastic. Plus another youngster maybe.

FB - Tabanou looks likely to sign. Tiendalli will stay imo, to earn his corn helping out in training <laugh> Can't see him starting much but he seems content to stay and appears to do just about enough to achieve this.

Keeper - again who knows.
No goalie who fits his gloves will want to play second fiddle. Could be looking for an older, experienced keeper looking to cool down to retirement. Someone like Shey Given, I use just as an example.

I think any additional midfield requirements will be met adequately by our kids stepping up from our under?s.
I see Grimes, Fulton, Barrow, Gorre and Bray getting game time with additional cameos from Josh Sheehan (midfield) and Stephen Kingsley at FB when possible.

All I'm hoping for is that we continue to grow and garner respect through the summer. It will be interesting to see how Monk carries himself over the next few months. At least we don't have to worry about losing our manager, for this year anyway.

This for me is our current best side. I want to see a more attacking approach for certain games next season and Ayew and Tabanou are most definitely attacking. Ayew and Montero will provide blistering pace that will free up room for Gylfi, Ki and Gomis <cheers>

Not writing off Taylor (as he has looked more and more solid as time has gone on) but Tabanou does seem the more exciting attacking option based on his career to date.

I'm looking forward to getting in behind their right back and some left footed crossing from Tabanou and Ayew.
On paper we should be creating more goal scoring opportunities next season
 
There will be a lot of work to do in pre season to find out who works together and who does not. The new players will hopefully gel quicker than gomis did because we need with our fixture list need to come out of the blocks running and not start slowly ending up playing catch up. The new guys who have not played in the premiership before will experience a bit of a culture shock at first but will soon settle down. (quicker than gomis i hope) I know results matter in pre season but i would rather lose trying out formations and tactics then and getting things right than when the real stuff starts. Everything is pointing to another good season with hopefully a good cup run and go for the win that we are capable of.....Just a couple or three more new players needed and we will be ready for a top 6 challenge i reckon......
