Yes, but that was in the Championship against Bamford, Martin, Wilson, etc. Next season we will be against a rather higher quality foe.
I don't disagree with this GE, and I don't think your point is incompatible with my post above (if you were intending that way, you might not have been). I agree that any CB we recruit should be a cut above Bennett and Miquel, both of whom I am pretty disappointed with. Especially Bennett as I was hoping for good things. My point was really that we shouldn't be splashing big money on a classy AND experienced CB. Don't get me wrong, if one comes up cheap we should leap at it! But in the grand scheme of things and the sums at our disposal, I sincerely think there are other priorities and if one of our back-up CBs leaves, we should be looking to invest in younger talent, who will come cheaper because of the risk
I think more PL teams would put in serious offers for him than I bet you think would The obvious answer is that no-one knows. However, I do know for a fact that Newcastle were seriously considering putting an offer in for him when that rumour cropped up (Jan 13 maybe?) and we batted them away with our demand. I appreciate that doesn't mean much at the present, but it shows that other teams have at least considered him. No offence KIO, but the instance you cited isn't him being out of position? That's weak defending/heading and being bullied by a big striker. We've identified that as his principal weakness some time ago
Wasn't he playing at RB when this rumour surfaced? That and a lack of pace I would argue (not that I'd stand a chance in a foot race with him!!)
He'd definitely been playing partly as CB for some time (i.e. perhaps half a season), because Newcastle were particularly interested in him because he could do both. At least that's what I heard and it seemed pretty realiable For a CB, Martin is reasonably quick compared to the physical specimens you get in that position. I agree he lacks the pace you might expect at RB though
On Martin's abilities as a CB, this is worth a read: http://norwichcity.myfootballwriter...and-a-key-member-of-alex-neils-inner-circle/? Removes any doubts about AN's regard for him.
A decent read, though I don't agree with all of it! http://transfernewscentral.com/2015/06/13/transfer-preview-norwich-city/
A fairly well thought out observation. What parts don't you agree with? 99% of it makes perfect sense to me - all bar signing a new CM, as we have enough bodies and variety already and have yet to see what Vadis and Andreu can bring to the party. please log in to view this image
Not a million miles away from my views, particularly in terms of Martin. Although like cromer another CM, unless they were going to be a direct replacement / competion for Hoolahan, would feature further down my list of priorities
More pearls of 'wisdom' from our resident twitter ITK / WUM? unknown @Norwich12435678 People tell me NRedmond value at over 10-15million, no. 5-8 million and he can be gone, contract only 2017. Everton not interest #ncfc unknown @Norwich12435678 Yes Redmond could go for 5 million guys. The bonus will add the value. Clubs do not get straight money these day #ncfc
Obviously he graduated from an "unknown" school, as any in the known universe would have taught him/her how to construct sentences and formulate lucid content.
I don't think that article is too unreasonable. The aim has to be to build a squad of 25 who all provide genuine competition for spots, and can slot in seamlessly if we have injuries. I don't believe we currently have that competition at centre back, right back, or defensive midfield. We don't really have a left winger, and none of our strikers play in the same way to Jerome, who suits our current system very well.
