Not quite sure why I was referenced in this by the way, and to be honest I don't really know what the story has to do with anything on here really, bit of a strange one if you ask me. Despite what Dave might be trying to suggest Pete Doherty isn't my hero by any stretch of the imagination, however I do like a lot of his music and I'm not brainwashed by the tabloids enough to recognise that he is a very talented guy who has produced songs, music and poetry that anyone one here could only dream of being able to create.

He has certainly had a positive impact on my life, and many others as well, and I personally find it a bit sad reading some of the things I do about people such as he by people who know absolutely nothing about the person at all.

Ah well.

Well said, Munky. I wouldn't mind giving a couple of people on here one 'Up The Bracket' for sheer ignorance at times.
 
Well he's hardly a "young" man anymore as he must be approaching 35 by now, but if you genuinely think someone can write songs as powerful, inspirational and downright beautiful as 'For Lovers', 'Time For Heroes', 'Music When The Lights Go Out', 'Albion' or 'Don't Look back Into The Sun' (to name but five) without being talented then I'm sorry mate but I'm not the one who would struggle in a "brainbox department" challenge.

But then how would you know, you've probably never even heard of those songs let alone be moved by them, and why would you need to when you can find out all you need to know about the guy from the red top press and your narrow, blinkered little mind?

Munky, a good friend of mine was a huge Libertines fan and Doherty in particular, she insisted that I listen to him as "he was amazing!" I'm afraid he did nothing for me but then, a lot of stuff that I find amazing would no doubt leave you shaking your head in wonderment. Vive la difference!
 
I don't imagine he's last too much sleep over it, there are plenty of us who do appreciate his talents to keep him going
 
He'll be in his fifties by the time she's old enough to bring home lads so probably not, no.
Whilst I'd clearly not be impressed if she was ever hanging around with or dating heroin addicts, I'd be very happy if she ended up with someone of his talents and I'd be more concerned if she brought home a Tory to be completely honest.
 
And whether or not you like someone's art or not, who are you to say they are talentless? I personally can't stand jazz music (despite trying to give it a go many times), but just because it's an artform I neither like nor appreciate I wouldn't be so ignorant as to suggest the people making that music were doing so without talent, that would be plain dumb

I'm not knocking his "talent" even though I don't appreciate it, I'm merely stating he is a total failure as a responsible human being!
 
As I've said to you quite a few times by now, I'm not necessarily a fan of Pete Doherty the man (though I've never met him in the flesh so chances are he is actually a top fella), however I am a fan of his songwriting ability and consider him to be one of the more talented people of my generation in his particular field. I've seen him live a few times, including an unbelievably brilliant Libertines gig at Ally Pally last year and he has always put on a great show, and that's what I'm judging him by, not what other people think about him. I shouldn't really care what anyone else thinks about him, but it does annoy me when I see what I consider to be ill-informed rubbish written about him - or indeed anyone or anything for that matter, and I guess that's why I piped up.
