A year ago Rodgers told Coutinho he see's him as a CM. But as a CM earlier this season Coutinho was rubbish, so Rodgers gave up and returned him to AM. But Rodgers obviouly wants some one with similar skill to Coutinho in midfield. That is probably Kovacic. Lucas Henderson Kovacic Alternatively Kovacic could replace Gerrard as the midfield 'pivot' and play deep. Kovacic Henderson Milner
When you think neither of those involve Can who was arguably one of the best players last ear (although admittedly in defence) as well as Allen who is ways a solid player it has given our midfield a bit more depth. Yes not the highest quality but it would be a lot more solid than last year and would allow Coutinho / Lallana to be further ahead and and be expressive.
I think we'd have to get rid of one probably Lucas if we were to do that. Can allen hendo milner kovacic lucas/another 6 players for in theory 3 slots....
Saying all that, I can't imagine us buying 3 central midfielders this summer when a striker is number 1 priority.
Thats depends what role you see Can in. He could be DM or CM. If its CM we need to keep Lucas because Allen is not DM. Lucas/Another Henderson/Can Milner/Kovacic or Can/Another Henderson/Milner Allen/Kovacic Allen stays as a utility midfielder and will be very useful off the bench when we are protecting a lead and in tight games where we must control possession.
I agree I cant see us signing 3. I dont agree that a striker is Rodgers number 1 priority, I think the midfield is.
BR has said many times we need more firepower and the fact he's not picked Lambert borini or balotelli for most of the season suggests that's he wants a new striker. On that point, Milner did it for City as a false 9 for a few games lasts year and seemed to do well so could be another option.
Maybe im being a bit optimistic, but I think Rossiter and Brannaghan should be considered as part of the midfield squad for nest season. Both very talented
Rossiter will likely go out on loan next season to a championship team. That's exactly what I see happening! We needed a top striker last summer and didn't get one. We needed a DM last summer and didn't get one.
So Barca have signed Vidal (not that one) despite him not being able to play until January due to their transfer ban. Does es that mean he just gets 6 months extra holiday then
I guess, although doesn't say that. Does seem pointless delaying it a year so they can buy players last summer in prep, and then allowing them to still buy players just not play
It's no more gamble than buying and loaning out for a year. They want a guy they pay and leave him there for 6 months. So? It's only til January anyway
I agree, but if he starts to miss games because they need to bed his replacement in then form, confidence and fitness can be lost. That`s without the risk of serious injury, which I accept can happen regardless of where he is playing.
Apparently might be interested in Benteleb for £10m... Something about not being contract dispute at Spurs. Hes been highly spoken of although not seen him stand out. A good player but any better than what we have at the moment? I'm not so sure....
