Thank you so much for your continued support everyone. The record attempt was such an incredible experience and one that I never would have done without the amazing help and aid of family, friends and even forum members!

As Whitely Saint mentioned, the final score was 910-725 but after the first couple of days, the final score became irrelevant to myself and the other players. We realised that we would only make it through as one team.

Monday night was incredibly difficult due to the ridiculous weather. At one point, I came off the pitch at 2am after a 4-hour shift expecting the record attempt to be over by the time I woke back up; but the boys dug deep and remained positive despite tents leaking and all of our kit getting drenched!

Thankfully the local community rallied round and offered to wash and dry our kit, bought and provided dry tents and came down in their numbers to cheer us on!

Each day, the local schools that the charity helps would bring down a few hundred schoolchildren and hearing them singing songs, chanting our names and cheering our goals really helped to spur us on and reminded us of the very reason we were doing this.

Unfortunately, we got news on the final day that a team from the Philippines had just submitted footage of a 101-hour record attempt so we had to go for two extra hours in the end!

For those curious, I was on the winning side and managed to score at least 15 goals - including one with my left and one with my head!

Thanks again for the support everyone and thank you for stickying this post, really brought a smile to my face when I logged on!

Excellent stuff Sam. Really seems like that was a fun and worthwhile event. Fabulous to hear the local people were helping you in terms of tents and washing kit, etc, that's a real community spirit.

Well done again; you must be proud.

This was a great story Sam, as evidenced by the BBC coverage, and it was really heartwarming, as FLT says, to see everyone pulling together like that, especially during the storm, and afterwards when you had replacement sleeping bags etc. donated. A fantastic achievement and one that will stay with all of you forever and give you something to tell your grandchildren about! Well done again!

In a world of Sepp Blatter and all that, thanks to all of you who reminded us of power of football as a force of good. You should be so proud. Bloody hell, I'm proud that the match took place at my beloved St Mary's. You must feel amazing, and rightly so.
