I dont think that was the only problem to be honest. We were the only team that looked like winning...but we never looked like scoring.
Happened quite a bit last season. Turns out we do need a 20 goal striker as Falcao was meh, Van persie is getting on and Rooney didn't step up despite calls. Hopefully both problems will be addressed. Along with others.
Rooney was perfectly ok when played as a striker. I agree though we need a prolific goalscorer to complement him.
Perfectly ok. Theres the problem. When played as a striker after his stint in midfield, he started scoring early on but that soon stopped. We were still dominating games and created chances bit nobody could finish. Not just Rooney, Mata also slacked off towards the end. Do you much about the Lyon striker, lacazette?
It's not so simple. Rooney and Mata were scoring bcos Herrera was given the freedom to roam by Carrick. Herrera knits our play from midfield to attack. The problem is when Carrick was out and Rooney was played up front, with either Blind or Mophead played in midfield, Herrera was forced to hang back and support. He was chained in effect. As a result our whole attack suffered.
I dont know enough about Lacazette but cant help feeling that: A) he's the latest flavour of the month B) he's only A) bcos there's not much out there to choose from.
Carricks worth is well documented on here. I dont think we lost when he played and had two great runs when he was fit. We really over rely on him which in all honesty is sad. He remaims the priority. Or at least replacing him does. (long term)
He's well hyped up on our board and all the people who know loads about football reckon we should be in for him. Ergo, he must be world class.
I honestly dont know so I won't trot out the usual "he plays in an inferior french league blah blah..." He could be a diamond in rough in all honesty. I'd probably prefer a cheeky bid for Tevez or even Dzeko for Livpl.
I can't claim to watch the French league every week, or indeed at all, so won't pretend I know too much about him. Tevez would be good but presumably expensive wages-wise, and don't know if he would move to us. Dzeko I think is a solid if not world-class player, but not sure how much he would fit our team. Would be a better fit than Balotelli, Lambert or Borini though. Just better full stop.
Dzeko is wasted at City but agree, I'm not sure he would suit your style of play. Then again he's has the quality to make you think he might just work.
I think Tevez is the nearest thing you will get to Suarez (in terms of keeping the same system) now that Sanchez has gone to Arsenal.
Agree, there aren't any other names that immediately spring to mind. Just can't see it happening in real life though, But if it does, at least we get to make a bloody huge poster.
What position does your mate play? I think you need a new goalkeeper, right back, centre half, left back, central midfielder, left winger, right winger and a couple of strikers.
