It is something of a landmark year for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe as the 2015 running will be the last before Longchamp racecourse is closed for redevelopment; and dual heroine Treve may return to attempt to become the only horse to win three times and give jockey Thierry Jarnet a record fifth win.

When the initial entries closed on 13th May, there were 105 horses entered at 7,200 Euros each (including 5 Japanese and 1 Aussie). Supplementary entries (for 120,000 Euros) can be made on Thursday 1st October.

All the entries can be seen on the France Galop website by going to the Racing Calendar and putting in the date 04/10/2015 and following the links to Longchamp and selecting the race name.

A quick summary of the entries shows:

Saeed bin Suroor – 3 entries​

Well-known older equine stars listed include Flintshire, Ectot, Epiphaneia, Al Kazeem, The Grey Gatsby, Telescope, Free Eagle, Kingston Hill, Dolniya, Treve, Just The Judge, Madame Chiang and We Are.

Not surprisingly at this stage, there is virtually no activity on the ante post market and it looks fairly predictable:

Oz horse called Criterion is now in England stabled at Gosden's place. His primary target is the Prince of Wales. But according to the local press here, he's also been entered in the Arc. He'd have to go really well in the Pow to go to France though.
 
William Hill offering 25/1 Karpino for the Arc. Might be worth a dabble. If he wins the German Derby impressively (which looks distinctly possible) the odds could halve

Just had a look at Karpino winning the Mehl-Mullens Rennen at Cologne. He is now second favourite for the Deutsches Derby. It would surely be too much to think that Germany has produced its third superstar in five years. bookies might however be slow after the Deutsches Derby to cut Karpino from 25/1.
 
Treve won the Corrida easily enough, by four lengths from We Are, but I am still not in any hurry to start thinking that she is some sort of good thing for the hat-trick.

Looking on Oddschecker, Treve is still available at 4/1 if you are quick (quite a few 7/2) whilst We Are is now 33/1 (won Prix de l’Opera last year, ten furlongs). Any ante post price is certain to be longer than she will pay on the PMU on the day with half of France shovelling their Euros on.

However, at this stage I am already looking elsewhere and my current particular focus is a three-year-old filly trained, like We Are, by Freddie Head. And that is Queen’s Jewel, who is available at 25/1. She won the Prix Saint-Alary last weekend and is currently favourite for the Prix De Diane ahead of Vedouma (Arc: 20/1) and Pouliches winner Ervedya.
 
Surely it's simply a case of her staying sound (though Free Eagle could have plenty to say in the division, I simply can't see him having his ground then). I'll tell you what, IF she does win a third Arc, I'd have her the top flat horse I've seen. Ahead of Frankel and Sea the Stars...

No no no Beefy, totally exposed over 10F last season, 12F plodder with no speed to win at a mile etc etc etc etc ;) (or was it just the wrong bloke on board? <laugh>)
 
If you are referring to Treve Oddy, I think you have forgotten something. But as it was such a hotly debated topic last year no point in going into it again. Treve will never train or race on firm going again as it will ruin her, just as it did for a while last year. And yes the wrong bloke was on board because the bastard should have got off before the race started.

If you are quick to your Paddy Power account, you can get some 14/1 New Bay (the Prix Du Jockey Club winner) but generally he is 10/1 or 8/1. Whilst the Arc is an extra two furlongs, the son of Dubawi’s racing style – just being switched off at the back – does not indicate that it would be a problem.

She doesn't even have half the talent of Frankel. Her and Sea The Stars are comparable though.

A colt is never going to get the opportunity to rack up multiple Arcs, due to the value of sending them to stud. So you can't really discriminate against the likes of Sea The Stars for only winning it once, as he only got 1 chance.

Having said that, I've never been of the opinion that Sea The Stars got to a level others didn't. What was remarkable about him was his consistency throughout a whole season, but from a form perspective none of his victorys where that of a great horse. His performances in the Irish Champion and the Arc where very good, but they weren't up there with the very best, even of the modern era. :biggrin:

Really?! I'd take 3 Arcs over and above Frankel's CV in a heartbeat. For the prestige alone. Not saying she's better than him but that achievement would dwarf even the great Frankel's but that's just my opinion.

Anyway she has to stay fit and sound, but it would be a fantastic story and would give this, what's looking to be a pretty forgettable Flat season, a huge boost.
 
Dunno if I'd agree about this years flat season being forgettable Beefy. Maybe the Derby is looking a bit thin at the moment, but there are some decent animals being trotted out this season. You guys would know better than I, but I think the influx of foreign horse flesh this time around is looking impressive. In the eyes of some, they may look to be just making up the numbers, but I'm hoping like crazy that they make off with their fair share of the prize money. It's one hell of a task to win in the UK and owners know this. So credit has to be given the connections for sticking out their necks. Putting their champion's cred on the line is a wonderful thing, and I for one think it adds heaps to the occasion. Hardly forgettable times ahead for me. :)
 
Sorry Cyc I meant within the UK/Ireland, there seems to be a distinct lack of stars like we've had recently. My knowledge outside these islands is limited so you could well have a point about those outside <ok>

Hopefully we'll see a few of your speedsters coming over for Ascot to take on our King over here, the mighty Sole Power :)

Yeah 3 Arcs is a better achievement in terms of the prestige of race she has won. However in terms of form and talent, what Frankel did was light years ahead of Treve.

Nothing against Treve, just Frankel is regarded by most as the most talented horse of all time :biggrin:
