Better than normal for Headingly tbh. Second innings wont reach over 200 for NZ or over 140 for England (batting last) (thats if we get 4 days play at least)
275-8 going to to end up 50 odd behind rather than 150 in front which should have happened when we were 170-0
Don't care really. Imo this is all about Anderson and broad starting this off in about 15mins and skittling them just as much if not more
Cant bowl them out too quickly or it'll give NZ loads of time to bowl us out again and win the match / draw the series
Fair play to broad. 46 from 37 and helped get the scores level. This is what he should be doing every match, going out and trying to score runs not just defending and getting a scratchy 5 and then getting out. And as I type that, broads bowled. 350 all out, scores are level.
As I said earlier this is Headingly, by day 4 the pitch and conditions (it's notorious for low pressure atmosphere and that means swing) will cause all sorts of problems. If NZ make over 220 then I cant see England winning. The 4th innings probably wont make 200 anyway.
When players have attacked they've scored runs, lyth, broad, Taylor, guptil and the other guy on debut for NZ that smashed 80 from 70 balls. England missed a trick at 170-1 by not sending in someone Root or Stokes to go attack while the old ball still had 25 overs to go. I think anything between 200-250 will make a very interesting last day which can only be good.
I am amazed at how England have gone about this. The poor fielding aside, the field positions offered none of the pace bowlers any protection. So in turn the pace bowlers virtually give up on wicket taking, decided to stop bowling that corridor of uncertainty, and tried to bowl wide to reduce runs instead. Then to top it off they brought on Moeen. A spin bowler when this wicket is ideal for swing. I'm amazed really.
323 ahead with 4 wickets still remaining.... think they'll go get 350-370 quickly and then try and bowl us out tomorrow. Can't see us winning it, not adventurous enough for that, plus we only need a draw to win the series.
England have been very very disappointing today. Southee showed us how but Anderson didn't deliver at all. I can see this going badly wrong if it's cold and cloudy as expected I hope for complete deluge tomorrow
Supposedly the weather was to turn bad but I only say forecast this morning. I was surprised the blue skies came out here at all.
England have been terrible. Especially today. Bowling and fielding has been dire England getting what they deserve
