With all the big clubs sniffing around and leaking their derisory bids to the media, I often wonder why we don't counter their low-ball offers for our players with a **** bid of own. Seems good politics to me. Of course, we won't get the players, but I think it would:

a) A proper up-yours right back at Rogers if we bid 20m for Stirling right after their **** Clyne bid. Two can play this game!
b) Project power. Perhaps it would give the young lads a second thought before they jump ship. And who knows, may positively enhance the psychology of the team.
c) Media attention = commercial revenue

Can anyone think of smaller clubs trying this tactic? Specific bids?
 
I say we offer £5m for Raheem Sterling (even though I wouldn't want him, just he is their prized asset), plus a small add-on in appearance fees.

And I hope it is released to the national press.

Fun idea but if we did that in reality it might put some players off coming here if they thought we didn't value them enough!

I believe it has been done before. Very little is original. But as you say, why not..? I'm all for a counter-attacking stance on transfer dealings, apart from telling them to stick their derisory bid where the Sun doesn't shine.
