Oh well then we can all pack up and stop wasting our time then. Don't be too convinced at our appalling ability to progress. Liverpool are most definitely a club who have missed the boat for the last 25 years, and things aren't improving for them. In fact, they starting to look worse. As little as a couple of seasons ago I might have agreed, but we might just pass them as they make a space in the table.

Eurgh just why Liverpool again. If it was a top four club I would wish him well, but I can't stomach seeing another player join them

Well I do based on the fact two weeks ago it was Champions league talk. Now maybe Man Utd have withdraw their big bucks, his tune changes to say something different.

Let's just peek at their last four season, from this year back.

Isn't it 6th, 2nd, 7th, 8th. Based on that, he should give Corkie a ring and see how much Swansea pay.

Where did I say that? Our progression has been brilliant over the last 5 years, but breaking the top 6 on a regular basis is incredibly hard without serious investment (like City/Chelsea levels), so I can't blame a player for taking the opportunity to join an established top 6 club rather than staying at a challenger for one

Kinda see both sides here. I think we need to see how we cope with Euro footie next year before getting too confident (should we get it). I can see us doing an Everton and it actually knocking us down a little. Should that happen though, can we all agree to please, please, please understand that kind of thing can and does happen, and not get too moany about it/Koeman next season?

If we got Europa league, and if we made a decent go of it, I would be very happy if we finished top 10 next year. You only have to look at clubs similar to us who played in the competition to see how it effects league form.

Still coming to terms with the reality that I am willing to support Ar**e Wenger Wenger Saturday - consoling myself there might be 3 ex-saints playing for the gunners....

My post a couple up might suggest it's 50:50 to call them top 6. They pay more money, they're a bigger club and as they keep telling us, they've got a great history. Take out the money (yeah right) and I'd say they're on a very sticky wicket. They won't sign the best of the best because they're not top 4, can't offer champions league football, can't say "come and play with the best" because they can't sign the best and the shiny star is fading. Their top youngster wants out and they are looking at picking players from similar clubs. That smacks of restricted ambition to me.

    Last four seasons: 8th, 7th, 2nd, 6th. I prefer our graph.

I agree that they can't attract the worlds best, but what they can (and have done) is hand pick the best players from the clubs just below them, and they can afford to pay the needed money to sign them, which keeps them ahead of the chasing pack. You could argue that we sign players from similar clubs, or even smaller clubs, do we lack ambition?

What Liverpool actually need to be successful is a revamp of their recruitment policy, their signings over the last few years have been nothing short of shambolic

Well they did drop from 2nd to 6th when they were back in a European competition, and I think that played a role in their drop this year, but I wasn't specifically thinking of them when I made that point, more Swansea/Newcastle/Everton in recent times.

I don't doubt that, but still playing Thurs/Sun for the first half of the season (at least) isn't easy, and bedding in a large number of new signings also isn't easy

Look, we could well struggle next season and I don't mind that as I am a believer that you need to experience things like the Europa disease to progress. What I can't buy right now is that Liverpool are all that. They had one season where they had one of the the top three strikers in the world on fire. To me, they are an ordinary team with one very good blip in four seasons.

If I'm a player with ambition, then it's the current top four or an exciting upstart that looks like it could do something. I may even have learned something from my old mates and what they did.

No one is saying it is. It is what Liverpool have to do too.

Surely Nat Clyne must have felt undervalued and insulted at the Scouse bid, it seems stingy to me,
