Spurs are free to bid for Ings.

If or once his contract is over, then it goes to tribunal where a fee will be discussed - the fee relating to compensation/contribution towards development costs etc.

Spurs bidding £12m before his contract over could lead to a higher fee that LFC would have to pay.

How does this tribunal thing work? I'm guessing that any Spurs bid would only affect the compensation part as it has no relevance towards the development costs that Burnley have borne.

No idea really. I'm guessing that Burnely will use Ing's market value (i.e. £12m) to prove that Ings is worth more than what Liverpool expect to pay (e.g. £4m)

Some very interesting comments from Tony Barrett:

There were members of the committee that did not want Mario Balotelli.

Others saw him as less than ideal short term solution. The fact they were in that position in the first place is the biggest problem.

As far as the club and owners are concerned, Rodgers remains as manager. The only grey area concerns the parameters that Rodgers will be asked to work within.

He then goes onto say that the Spurs bid could be a deliberate ploy to inflate the price which will eat into our budget.

How can Spurs bid for Ings when the window doesn't actually open until the day after his contract expires?

    It's a complete nonsense.

Perhaps it's an enquiry? Either way, now people are talking about his market value at £12m. That may play a part in the tribunal.

His market value is £0, as he's on a free.

The tribunal will set his compensation figure based on some form of mystical calculation worked out on the back of a *** packet.

It's impossible to attribute an actual market value to him, as it'd be nothing more than subjective opinion i.e. a complete guess <laugh>

That's the worrying thing. Who's to say that the rumoured 12 million won't somehow be included in the mystical calculation?

Let's be honest, it appears that no-one here really seems to know how the amount will be decided and what, if any, effect any Spurs bid would have on the final amount.

And the compensation could factor in the £12m bid. <ok>

Spurs can't bid, that's the point, it's a complete red herring.

    What 'bid'?

They can't bid for him, as they couldn't complete a deal while he was still under contract to Burnley, as the window is shut.

Whoever has leaked this one is on crack and so are Sky for running it.

Maybe not, and even if they could, 12 million for someone with less than a week on their contract is stupid. But who's to say that, if the pricing process for the tribunal is not transparent, any such "bid" could play a role. Hopefully it won't, and it probably shouldn't, but I wouldn't want to completely rule it out.

Depay isn't out of contract on the 1st July <doh>

All parties have agreed to the deal and it'll complete the day the window opens i.e. 1st July

please note that the tribunal sets compensation for training the player not his market worth.

like... we could then say hey.. real madrid might bid 160million for stelring so force arsenal to pay 60 for sterling... thats not how it works.

the consensus is this guy will go for about 6 mil.

for me.... the fact he says he is off on hols... well that tells me nobody has been knocking his door down.

But the the English window opens 9th June, so there is overlap for Ings between his contract being over and transfer window opening

  18. If there members on the panel that didn't want Mario and we still signed him then those members need sacking. Complete lack of bollocks to stand by their own minds!

  19. Market value as zero impact on the tribunal figure. Especially when that market value is zero because the player is out of contract.
