Get the feeling that this time it might just be a cash only transaction. Realistically there aren't many of their players we'd want, that we could afford to pay their ridiculous wages. Of course one D.Drogba would be ideal but that won't happen.
Lots of people say this, I really can't see why we would want him... He's older now, lost a fair crack of pace, is a petulant twat who can't deal with rotation and thinks he's the dogs balls. Do we need another ego like this in the dressing room?
£27M sounds like a very fair price to me. He is a good Player, but in the history of the games, how many Central Midfielders have been sold for more than this? Take the money
You have a point, in as much as Liverpool seem to be having a laff with their valuations, they made Andy Carroll the 8th most expensive Player in the history of Football FFS! But it is £20M for Henderson that is the joke here, not £27M for Modric.
I know it is mere rumour and conjecture, but apparently if the Modric £27m bid is knocked back Chelski are going to turn their attentions to Kaka.... thats right, Kaka is second choice to Modric. Now, when you consider the values being bandied about for Kaka (think that there were talks of £100m bids at one point) then it should give an estimation of the sort of value Modric is. Now I'm not saying Modric's a £100m player, Kaka isn't that now, but he's a bloody hell of a lot more than £27m, thats for sure.
Kaka was sold for £56M At that time he was one of the three or four best Players in the World, playing at one of the three or fourr best Clubs in the world and sold on to another. This is Modric, going from Spurs because they aren't good enough to finish 4th in the Premier League. Compare him if you will to the sale of Kaka, but you are having a laff
But Henderson is homegrown, so no need to worry about finding a squad place. I know the "English" premium is a bit ridiculous, but the "homegrown" premium is perfectly logical. £27M is probably 50% more than Henderson's underlying value. Probably not far off the truth.
As I said, the speculation in the media are that Kaka is the second choice if the Modric deal is a no-go, so it is not I that that's making a comparison, it is the media and their propagators of rumours, lies, and half-truths
http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/footba...arget-as-spurs-play-hardball-over-luka-modric Do you think Real will give up Kaka for the equivalent of $27m the way they have Modric- even if he does want to leave an opening bid of 60m might be required.
You're actually complaining about receiving £27M for Modric? With that money you could sign two or three equally good or at least adequate replacements. It's crazy money.
I think Spurs fans have to be realistic about Modric's value. I can understand that, being their best player and having a huge detriment to the team if he left, he is worth a lot to them. But anyone who understands business will tell you that something (or someone) is only worth what the other party are willing to buy it for. You could then argue that the seller doesn't have to sell if the buyer doesn't meet their valuation, which is okay if you have an inanimate object that will sit on the shelf, but a footballer who is unsettled, unhappy and wants to leave is a different commodity. Spurs may feel that he is worth £40m+, but realistically, his open market value is closer to £25m - £30m
Kaka has barely played a decent game in the past 2 years, would command higher wages, and has no Premier League Experience, as such he would represent a huge gamble, on those terms, Modric would be my first choice from that pair too. But I still don't see a Player worth £27M+
is David schofield stupid read the bbc sports gossip saying Chelsea will bid for kaka if we play hardball on modric,i was'nt comparing him to Modric, now go back to your Chelski Chav board
Realistically, in your opinion, his value is closer to 25-30 in an OPEN market. Its not an open market, there aren't numerous Modrics to choose from, there's one and the price for him as a player will be set by the club higher than comparative players or sales of recent times. As I see it, and this is my opinion, his valuation will be above that of a Henderson ie £20m, and below that of a Kaka (as previously stated £56m.) If current media speculation is to be believed, the red Mancs are currently lining up to launch an opening bid for Sneijder of £35m, comparable player, same position, same importance to his current team, same value placed on getting hold of him by the prospective buying club. Now I'm not saying that Modric is on the same level as Sneijder, but I am saying that the effect of losing them to their current teams would be the same so if the red Mancs get Sneider it'll be for at least £10m on top of the opening bid, if not more and the same will apply for Modric. £32-35m would probably be an acceptable bid, in the current market.
I don't think Levy will let him go,he seems pretty adament about that. But 40 million might change his mind, don't think anything lower would
£40million is what Levy should of said from the beginning especially as he must of known Modric was going to want out. Modric is no way worth £40million, (only 4-5 players have gone for more than that) and then if we got it, we could go out and buy 2 quality players (midfielder and striker). Now even if we get £40million and accept, Levy is going to look like a mug as he said the amount of money wasn't the principle.
