Not saying SWP wasn't talented - he clearly was but I think he was unfortunate in that he didn't receive the best coaching at Man City (before they pumped the money into the club). He was a natural talent and that is what shone through earlier on in his career. He was fast and direct but when quality defenders figure you out, you have to be a lot more intelligent on the ball (and off the ball).

Sterling is very fortunate - he came through one of the best academies in world football and was taught under Borrell. And the coaching at LFC focuses a lot on tactical awareness and game intelligence. Which is why I think Sterling is and will be a better player.

I'm sure it's just playing hardball but Rodgers saying he expects him to see out the remaining 2 years would be barmy if he meant it, are we really going to miss out and a large fee? If he wont sign sell him.

  7. Interesting that you suggest SWP lacked intelligence on the pitch due to a lack of coaching but then say Sterling received some of the best coaching available. I think SWP looked a lot more intelligent on a pitch than Sterling currently does.

I don't think Sterling is another SWP btw, i think he's another Theo Walcott in that he plays best off instinct and if you give him time to think he'll mostly **** it up. Raheem has more ability on the ball than Theo ever did though.

  8. Of course its just hardball tactics. We want the maximum return and we won't get that if we come and say he's a **** we want rid of <laugh>

I think Sterling's movement and passing are extremely good. Looks like he picked up some tips from Luis because he is brilliant off the ball. SWP was more refined on the ball as I say, a lot of his 'brilliance' was down to natural talent. But that can only go so far because quality defenders will negate speed easily. It's a shame because SWP could have been special.

Again, I do not rate Walcott. I think he is brainless and another player who relies on speed and being direct. It's funny because you would have thought Wenger would be the best person to develop his game further but I suppose injuries have hampered that progress.

  10. Agree Sterling is better off the ball than either of those two mentioned, much better defensively too. I don't rate Theo either <ok>

<laugh> It's gunna be the longest most drawn out transfer of the summer. Both parties playing hardball, this just counters his agents ridiculous position. Personally, I want the under-performing greedy little sh*t away from Anfield asap.

Marcel Desailly recently said that the only reason he chose Chelsea ahead of Liverpool was because of the location of a French speaking school his kids could attend.
Some players choose clubs by location for reasons other than football and others naturally choose London over Liverpool.

  17. I never said location wasn't a factor. I think it is but it shouldn't be one of the prioritise.

But you/we are not in facing the same decision so can only give an opinion based on what we think we would do in their place, I happen to think if i was given a choice of clubs my priorities would be wages, club stature and aims and ambition, location, in that order, but if I was a 20yr old that has risen through the ranks and been offered a massive payrise by the club that plucked me from obscurity and gave me a chance in the game I'd give back a little by signing a contract extension with an escape clause that should certain clubs make an offer for my services I could consider their offer.
Which is what Suarez did, and that benefitted the player and the club.

  19. I believe my priority would be would I get much game time, ambition and personal happiness.

    - I'm not a greedy person (except with food) so I honestly don't think the money would be a major thing for me. In fact the job I'm in now isn't the best paid job and I could probably get better but I like where I work (<laugh> ) so I have no intention of moving. Plus, if you're a good player you'll get the money regardless. As I've argued many times before, what can you do with £100k per week that you can't do with £80k per week?
    - I always want to achieve as much as possible and I'd want to win trophies.
    - There is nothing more important in life than being happy.

Everything else would be minor details that would help you choose between the ones that are able to offer these. I think individuals would have personal preferences too though. For example, Man Utd could have offered a regular first team place and the chance to win trophies but I don't think I could ever have joined them.

Edit: I also realise I'm not like most people <laugh>

Perhaps some see wages as a reflection of that status at the club i.e. Sterling sees that Sturridge is the best paid player in the team now but feels that he is better than DS so he wants the pay to reflect that.

Who knows - re. Sterling, I don't think it's purely down to money. Quite a few people have alluded that the relationship with the manager has deteriorated, but also the club is not in a good place.
