  1. This is something I've pointed out before. If you're not going to be happy until you have the best two players in every position at your club then you're never going to be happy. Not even the likes of Real, Barca or Bayern can hope to achieve that!

I think some people still think we are the dominant force of the eighties and believe accepting any sort of realisation that we're no longer at that level is seen as accepting failure. That simply isn't the case. Realism is what it says on the tin. It doesn't mean we shouldn't be aiming to improve, it means we accept where we are at and that it will take time to get back to where we want to be.

Average = no reason why he'd not play quite a bit... average = middle ground.. most players should be about average

you are right as long as you don't end up asking the average players in the squad to go carry the whole load. you need the quality spine to go with them to achieve.

    You should be less specific<laugh>

Do you feel that Flannagan is Liverpool quality or not?

  6. Of course he did, can't believe I'd forgotten he was in the reserve England squad.

this is like a QI question.. a big alarm will go off but i don't care.

LFC quality right now IS average. Flanagan can play for LFC but LFC need a lot better players around that kind of player to keep up in 5th even. If top CM and ST came in the likes of flanagan can work.

It's like this... LFC had steve harkness way back when.. or tanner for instance. The issue back then is on the left we bought the awfully average leonhardsen and so forth and so a player like harkness could not just do his bit and that be enough...

Right now LFC have lambert up front.. or sterling who is a poor CF... or can at RB who is way out of position and it all adds up to a mess.

I agree the quality is what is essential to us at the moment but if we get rid of sqaud players like Flanagan and Lucas (as examples) as soon as we get injuries to our quality we're screwed.

I'm not espousing getting rid of flanagan <ok> just that

    a) not sure he will get back from injury

    b) just saying he's average not that he should be got rid of.

The big mistake i point back to in 09 was rafa going out of his way to get rid of keane out of spite and leaving himself with babel and n'dog up front v wigan and boro and dropping 5 points and never getting back in the race. So yes you need a big enough squad but the key men have to have koala tea.

Yeah this is a big issue for him.

I also hope that with Johnson gone Flanno crocked it would make sense to sign Manquillo.

The fact that all players aren't above average just proves they aren't giving 110%

I never said we need 11 world class players in the team.

But if you look at the lesser players in big teams, they are still at a higher level than to the one Flanno is at. He's not good enough to be the 'average' player in the team.

Look at Arbeloa, Ivanovic, Zabaleta, Azpi, - they aren't glamorous and they aren't the stars of their team. They are the 'average' players in the team. That's the level we need to get to. But they perform their limited roles to a high level with minimal mistakes.

So yes, whilst I understand your logic for including Flanno in that teams can't have world class players in each position, you simply cannot just accept any level to fill these positions.

Flanno. I would have him tomorrow Nd your manager cites him as one of the three key players he has missed from last season<ok>

And defensively it shows how much he has been missed. You could have had Can in midfield and not playing as a 3 man CD

You think Zab, Ivanovic & azpilicueta are average members of the team? They are arguably the teams best defenders and 4 of the best full backs in the league!

Ivanovic is just plain honest to God very good player. He's not the rest RB imo but he is just all round that good he carries it off in his consistency and positioning etc

Azpilicueta is a right back playing left side and is a very very good full back

Zabaletta isnt all that to be honest but is a solid prem style player. He's nor performed awesomely in Europe for city

The point on if we had.. .... frankly if we'd recalled wisdom at Christmas we could have had him and all.... Rodgers doesn't like him thiugh .

If we had played manquillo either . The point is we did not.

We chose 343 and I doubt Flanagan would have stopped that as moreno on the other side worried Rodgers so much he went for the change when injuries forced him to

    Personally, no.

I don't think he's technically or physically good enough. I could be wrong, but that's what my gut feeling is after seeing him playing over 30 games for Liverpool.

He's not good enough to be a regular for the level we want to be at, we need better. I think his reputation has been enhanced, to an unrealistic level, by his injuries & our poor performances.

If you define a "super club" by winning trophies on a regular basis only 2 prem clubs fit the bill(Chelsea and City, since Fergie retired Man U don't fit that criteria), if you base it on finances we are currently 8th richest in world football?
If we're also rans so are every club not to win honours in any particular season, in Sterling's case he is a wet behind the ears kid who believes in his own hype, the 4 clubs currently above us in the prem, Barca and Real, PSG, Juve and Bayern in Europe out of those "super clubs" how many would want him?, how many could guarantee he wins the trophies he thinks his super skills and match winning performances entitle him to?

If he signed for any other club than those mentioned it would be purely finance driven, if any of the clubs mentioned hold talks with him surely he will demand in his potential new contract that he's guaranteed a starting place in every game due to his brilliance, if on the other hand he's prepared to be a bench warmer and play a minor role its also financially driven.

So taking your agenda aside, in your opinion where does young Sterling rank in terms of being a proven winner that gives his employers 110% every game compared to any of the players currently at "super clubs"?

If you read the thread you'll see that I personally want the Judas gone asap, him leaving isn't the problem for me, its him dragging the club through the dirt, giving an exclusive tv interview regarding a move without permission from the club, opening the club up to snide remarks and criticism etc, Rodgers has let himself and the club down publically kissing the ****ers arse and basically pleading with him to stay, as soon as he started bitching the club should have played hardball with him, club fine and a cooling off period in the youth team, but not us, we send him on a paid holiday holiday during the season to the Caribbean and offer him £100,000 a week wages.<laugh>

<peacedove>IT’S almost half a century since Manchester United and Liverpool did transfer business together, when Mancunian Phil Chisnall moved to Anfield for a £25,000 fee in April 1964.

Manchester United have now entered the race to buy Raheem Sterling.
I am not sure Sterling himself would like to sign for Manchester United.
Which club should we sell to??.
