Ince was a thug.

unlike Barca Rafa didn't consider masch tall enough to stick in the box so thats why he was more advanced to block on edge. he was a good runner no question, lots of energy.. and 4 red cards in last season showed why I'd rather an alonso any day <ok> no disrecpect to maschernao who was excellent while he was here and really allowed us to free gerrard.

In his prime, Ince was the best box to box player in the league by a street, and up with the best around in Europe.

Once he couldn't make the lung busting box to box runs for 90 mins and he started to drop back more, he lost his edge and by the end had become a hacker, but in his pomp he was far, far more than that.

He was always a **** like.

You're right, he's an honest pro, nothing against the lad and it wasn't his fault Rodgers paid £15m for him. He'd do an honest job playing every week in an average PL side, that's all he is and ever will be.

Him and Mccarthy are very similar. Both need better players alongside to do the defensive or attacking work

I thought someone would spot that <laugh> The ****ing MD is against lunchtime drinking bar one day a month.

Lunchtime bevvies are from the [HASHTAG]#darkages[/HASHTAG] mate.

We used to do it all the time back in the day, but would virtually never have a pint on a lunch out these days, as it's simply no longer socially acceptable.

Remember Friday lunchtimes down the alehouse when all the lads had their pay packets in cash? The young un's wouldn't believe you if you told them what we used to do back then ffs.

Nope.

McCarthy is an all round midfielder, he's strong in the tackle, reads the game superbly and when he pushes on (which he doesn't do often enough) is useful in and around the opposition area.

We missed him badly when he was out for a spell this season, he's crucial to the way Martinez wants us to play. He's a tremendous player, a players player. We might struggle to keep hold of him this summer.

Jack of all master of none. Much like Allen. Not sayinf he's not a good player, he's an all round midfielder, can do a bit of everything just nothing to a top top level. Much like Allen, both work really well in a 3 man midfield with a defensive and attacking player alongside. They then become the middle man, helping a hand in both aspects but just being that link in midfield.

ermmmm john ****ing jenson, makelele, deschamps... "water carriers"

Those others you name are enforcers.

DM is as i've said before an pilloried for it is an anachronism. Purely destructive players are a nonsense. Ive said this and you lot argued the point time and again.

I've said before.. henderson could play it and so can Can... its all about attitude.

Makeleles passing was shocking. Worse than Lucas. You stopped us under rafa because you played deep a la mourinho and you let makelele have the ball who was bad with it (plus our back 2 were behind makelele which meant we barely made it into your half when we got there)

Its funny speaking to some people who have been here like 20 years about how we used to have a social club in the building... Booze on tap etc and as you say, Friday lunch time was having a few and back to work and talking to people half cut on Friday afternoon.

Just couldn't even contemplate something like that in this day and age...

The lads used to be down the pub and the managers would go out for a 2/3 hr lunch and all would have 3-5 pints every Friday. Thinking back it was laughable, but at the time it was just 'normal' behaviour.

Good times

McCarthy has got far more in his locker than Allen imo. Hence the reason he's been linked with Arsenal and United

Maybe, maybe he's just played more and stood out more this year as Allen has been injured ?
Point remains they are both similar players in that they don't excell in attacking or defending but can do a half decent job in both places.

Sorry but they're not similar at all mate. One of them is good and the other bang average :)

True,

One of them performs well in a less than average team..
The other performs well in a top 4 challenging team when not injured

:)

Mccarthy is better but not by much. Frankly i wouldnt put either in a top 4 side (and barely as squad players)
