I have been looking at various systems and this weeks will be backing horses that we beaten favourites last time out, below are the qualifiers:

835 Lei- Lady Kyllar

250 RedC- Belle Neille
350- RedC- Soul Brother
450 RedC- Takafol
520 RedC- Anniversarie
550 RedC- Ingelby Hollow

210 Towc- Horace Hazel
310 Towc- Moonlight Maggie
340 Towc- Maller Tree/ Knight Bachelor
440 Towc- Amazing D'Azy

I will update this tomorrow evening to see how these horses fared? Does anyone have a ritual they always abide to when picking a horse?

Boily I very rarely pick a horse that pulled up last time out, just a thing I have!Yard form is a big one for me to, if a trainer hasnt had a winner say in the 2/3 previous months thats a big negative also

Redcar 3:20 - Quite Smart. Reading through the form she's came up against some pretty useful horses and not been disgraced, also has a decent run this season under her belt so got to fancy her to take this one.

I like course and distance winners especially when they are racing off a mark lower than their C&D win! I don't back horses from yards that haven't had a winner in the last fortnight! (although I did back Squire)

Don't back Charlie boy then lads. Unless he's had a winner I don't know of he's gone about 70 runners without a win.

Roscommon 6.25-No way jack 8/1-Been told the yard are hoping for a big run tomo.Got to the front too soon last time out and will hopefully be given a more patient ride this time.Its a 17 runner hcapp so each way territory here.

Regards yard form, I'd say it's a bonus if you back a horse from a yard in good form but surely each horse has got to be taken on it's own merits? The horses own form has got to be worth so much more than it's yards form. Trainer and/or jockey form has never been something that would put me on or off a horse.

Have to disagree big time Fabio. Yard form should be near the top of everyones list. Viruses, dodgy batch of feed / hay, poor work riding at home, gallops being unusable (eg at the moment at Epsom the gallops aren't watered and are too firm to work horses on the turf) are to name a few things which cause horses to run way below what they could do.

I like a horse that's dropping down in class and naturally always wary of a horse going up in class.

The last race at Southwell tomorrow is interesting as you have horses going up, remaining in previous class and coming down, add to this you have horses going up and coming down in distance and it makes a decent puzzle for those who like a puzzle.

I have gone for Conry who is down in class and down in trip as I always think coming down in trip is a good idea at Southwell as it means your stamina will not give out and hopefully the jockey if convinced of stamina will likely make use of your horse, as is essential at Southwell. There is money for Be Lucky but the horse is being asked to go up in trip at a track like Southwell, which unless it's a plot and they know this is it's trip that is a big question mark and the money is put at great risk.

If any of those things are major issues for a trainer then surely the horse(s) shouldn't be running in the first place? Like I say, form either good or bad wouldn't put me on or off backing a horse, a yard in poor form has to come good at some point, just like a yard in really good form has to come to an end, I just try to be on the right side of it and don't let it affect my judgement on the horse, which after all it's the horse that's carrying my money.

Morning, you types. Well lovely weekend for the county set as TIME TEST did it very, very nicely. Travelling and then quickening in the style of a most decent horse. Sure to be raised to a perch around the 100 mark after that it will probably be either the Group 2 King Eddie the Seventh, at Royal Ascot, for him next or the 3YO Group 3, at the meet, over 10 furlongs (sorry I’ve forgotten the name of the race). One to follow next time and in the future, troops.

Well I’m handing out plaudits how well did Ryan Moore do at the same meeting. Exceptional with a capital ‘E’. In the past some of you types have had some strange ideas when it comes to competence in the saddle but, pilgrims, this is the real deal. Right now Ryan Moore is a huge plus to an horse as he’s some way in front of every other Flat jockey riding at the moment.

On the subject of trainer form, if I may, yes a good run is a benefit but don’t forget from the point of view of value it can also be a punting negative. When a yard is in a ‘purple patch’ you will regularly see horses who should be 5/1 going off at 3’s, 7/1 shots going off at 9/2 and 10/1 shots going off at 6’s, etc. You get the idea. Punters tend to back such horses blind which results in them going off prices they really, really shouldn’t be.

Finally, to use a footballing analogy today and tomorrow has something of the ‘transfer deadline day’ feel to it as some very good horses are being sold ‘ooooooooooop’ at DBS. Who will go where??? Going to be fascinating to find out.

"Time Test had been immature and you saw a bit of that today, but we've done a lot of work with him at home. He's been working with Al Kazeem (Winner of this very race in 2011 off a mark of 95 now rated 120, and winner of 3 Group 1's) and we couldn't believe how well he was working with him. He's always been talented and I told Ryan to ride him like a good horse. Ryan said to take my time with him and be in no rush, but I suspect I'll be encouraged to move out of handicaps, I consider him a 1m 2f horse for now, a possible target being the Group 3 Tercentenary Stakes at Royal Ascot."

Have you been getting your servants up at the crack of dawn to go spying on the gallops Barney ?

Definitely one for the tracker, he could develop into a very serious racehorse!

The Tercentenary that’s the name of the race, thanks, Attivo. I see Ryan Moore has advised them to not take too big a step too soon with Time Test but to gradually progress to the top table. Sensible plan. But I guess ultimately Juddmonte and Lord Teddy will decide how they go – Mr Charlton’s comment (‘I suspect I'll be encouraged to move out of handicaps’) is certainly a nod to the fact that the owners will have the finally say!

Also a belated congrats to Stick and Don with Squire going in recently - haven't had a chance to watch the race but I understand he battled all the way and showed a lot of heart!! Any chance we will see him jump a hurdle one day lads?!
