While he clearly isn't everyone's cup of tea, his record at both Villa and Spurs is pretty damn impressive and he clearly gets his players playing for him and the team. Many on here (Myself included) weren't interested in him last summer. How many have had a change of heart? I know I have. I actually really like the man. He comes across as very positive, very friendly and just a generally decent block. He's been a breath of fresh air in his 2 stints in the Prem with exciting attacking football and a cheeky smile. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32681105 The video in this link shows he doesn't take things too seriously/
I agree, I really like what he's done so far and wish him all the best. Not sure how effective he will be over a longer term, but he dertainly seems to have a great short-term bounce wherever he has been so far, certainly the way he re-invigorated the careers of Adebayor and Benteke was pretty smart. Still wouldn't necessarily want him as our manager though
Well I can't see Villa sacking him for a hotter prospect. Next season will be the real test of his character and ability.
There is no doubt that Sherwood has done well because they looked like going with PL in charge. Agree with Munky in that for all that I am happy with AN whether we make the final spot or not, next season we will either go up or stay up (in the Prem)
Disagree that his time at Spurs was "pretty damn impressive". I think he did okay, but nothing more. He's had an excellent start at Villa. It'll be interesting to see if that continues into next season.
I doubt it, think he's earned himself plenty of time already as everyone at the club seems to have really taken to him, he could yet win them the FA Cup and as they showed by putting up with two and a half years of ****e from Lambert the owners are blessed with plenty of patience.
I have never been sure of what to make of Sherwood as a manager. He seems very two paced, good sometimes, a failure at others.
He's managed 21 games, which should show more than if he's just being an impact manager (which is a category I'd put Gus Poyet in for his Sunderland antics which arguably relegated us last year). At least I hope that means he's more than an impact manager. Otherwise I might start wondering about our own... And to get some of the wins he has with Villa's broadly turgid squad (albeit he's been massively helped by their several truly class players stepping up for him).
Those same players who went missing under the stewardship of a manager some Canaries consider to be the greatest one to ever walk the planet. The more I see of him the more I like him, he seems the kind of guy who has that desirable ability to be "one of the lads" when the time is right but who can also turn into a nasty bastard and put you in your place when you step out of line. One thing is for certain is that whatever happens he is going to be entertaining in one way or another, and that has to be a good thing in my opinion.
He's actually managed 41 games according to Wiki, of which he has won 21 and anyone with a win rate over 50% over that many games must be doing something right.
Sorry I mean he's managed 21 Villa games as we were talking about whether he's an impact manager . I think 21 is easily enough to show he's over the "new managerial bounce". Still, his win rate is over 50% for just Villa games, so your point stands - and given their squad IMO that means he is definitely doing something right!
This is why my opinion on him has changed slightly. While at Spurs there was the chance that he was just getting the new manager bounce. But he completely transformed Adebayor, who has gone back to doing nothing again this season, and got them playing very attacking, if a little naive, football. He's now done the same for Villa with Benteke and even got his defence pretty sorted. The last few games I've seen Villa looked a really decent side, and considering how awful they were under Lambert this season, that's some achievement!
