Have to say I am in 100% agreement with Beefy on this one. Peanut Butter OR Marmite, on toast. But one on top of the other..? Ergh is absolutely the right word.
To be honest, that was my initial reaction but I can't really knock it as I haven't tried it.

Not only was it an opportunity missed, but 1] the electorate didn't care about it then, 2] they were informed that it was a good thing not to care about it then, 3] now if most of the country gave it a thought they'd wish they had taken it far more seriously.

Alternative Vote is actually not a bad form of Proportional Representation. It's not in anyway perfect, but it's a damn sight better than First-Past-The-Post because your vote gets you representation. At present I am entirely unrepresented.

How about an elected House of Lords, based on PR, and with greater (but not total) powers of veto?

Well:

No-one was intimidated out of, or into, voting
No ballot boxes were stuffed
No ballot boxes "went missing"
Counts were held in the open and under constant scrutiny
The electoral roll didn't contain fictitious names
No-one was murdered for voting
Voting was secret

And, if anything on that list did occur, there would be a serious investigation under British law.

Apart from that, probably not very fair at all.

I haven't read any of your posts on this thread (I genuinely haven't read this thread for reasons I've made abundantly clear) but can I assume that your question is based upon a "fair" election being one that results in the government you would have preferred?

Most fourth from bottom on page 575 . says it all for me .

I must say I'm very disappointed with what some people have posted on here in the last few pages.

I know we live in a free society wherein people are able to make decisions but in this case its just plain wrong and outright damaging to society as a whole. I hope after the fallout from this we can get some strong leadership to challenge this threat and put in a collective effort to locate and educate some of those who still refuse to understand that Marmite is disgusting!

Wasn't there some sort of election on as well?
:)

...I love marmite hhhhmmmm with cheese on a crumpet.

Bugger now I am hungry.

My wife thinks I am strange putting marmite in a crumpet. There is something sensual about the marmite and butter mixing together as it melts through the body of the crumpet.

She also thinks I am strange for putting it on scones.

Other top marmite tips:

On a jacket Spud (not a Spurs fan in an anorak)
Spread on to the skin of a chicken before roasting.
On tea cakes.

It is just wrong Tommomo. It's a class thing. These posh types think they are above foundation foods like marmite and would probably enjoy a pate or a compote.

While I was warming over hot crumpets and marmite on a Sunday evening as a kid watching Ski Sunday with my family, they were probably in the Alps enjoying caviar on the après-ski.

Back then I though 'to Ski' was to eat a yoghurt.
