    Will always remember the 1945 UK election. Dad was a shop steward and gave a bit of campaign help to the Labour candidate called Commander H. Pursey in Hull East.
    I remember one little ditty from the campaign.

    "Vote vote vote for Commander Pursey
    You can't vote for a better man
    Commander Pursey is the one and we'll have him if we can
    And we'll throw old Churchill in the dock.

    Pursey won of course and Hull East has been Labour ever since.

    Same Party, mine came came down in favour of Labour, however, strangely enough, there were no questions relating to their 'open door' policy regarding immigration, which is the reason that I absolutely will not be voting for them!

    I think some people fail to realise how perilously close we were to meltdown in 2008. A couple of hours away from major banks going bust by some reports.
    The Labour Government had a choice - let the banks go bust and we'd have seen an economic depression. They did what they had to do so billions of pounds were
    printed (it's the click of a mouse these days by the BofE) and lent to those banks that needed it and in some cases used to buy shares in banks.

    I remember Alistair Darling's 2009 budget speech when he outlined how much the Government had to borrow over the next few years, with gasps of horror coming
    from the Commons. Again, Labour did what they had to do. Recession is better the a Depression.

    That meant the Coalition took over with record debt and an annual deficit of around £150b. The deficit has come down to around £90b now but that means as a country we're still racking up the overall debt. This is why we'll see record low interest rates for another 5 years at least.

    So, blame the Tories, blame the Lib Dems, blame Labour the fact is we have, and continue to, live beyond our means.

    The truth is we can't afford our welfare spending. The NHS is too big (I'm sure it's current size was never planned back in 1948), property prices and rents are too high, we have too many people living on these islands, I could go on.

    Maybe a crash in 2008 could have pressed the re-set button but, hey-ho, what's done is done.

    Re the NHS. When it was set up Nye Bevan said the cost, about £400million a year, seemed high but as itime went by and it improved health standards the cost would fall.

    It doesn't matter which Party gets in, the 'open door' policy regarding immigration will continue. The Party that is elected will they themselves be governed by forces that they cannot control. It is happening in all Countries that have a welfare system. Like Australia, why is Great Britain bringing in thousands and thousands of immigrants when there is no work or accommodation for them? Ask any politician that question and you will get totally ignored.

    The Greens mean well but some of their policies are laughable. They claim to be environmentalists but they want to strip away our remaining border controls. More immigration means a larger population, which in turn requires more houses to be built on brownfield and greenfield sites. Not very environmentally friendly, is it? Britain under the Greens would end up looking like an overcrowded, impoverished banana republic.

    From what I am reading here in Oz, Farage is not the front runner in the electorate in which he is standing so may not be in Parliament after this election. We need someone like him in Oz to stir things up as whichever party gets in here it's the 'same-old, same-old' regardless of the unemployment rate which has just gone to 6.2%.

    None of the above and a huge line through the ballot paper. Nihilistic but they're all big fibbers.

    The mainstream parties are now acknowledging this problem. I believe Tories manifesto states a 2 year wait for EU migrants before they can claim benefits and even Labour will have some rules in place.

    Possible scenario, down to results:

    Tories gain most seats (but not a majority);
    Tories and Lib. Dems. form a coalition (but do not have a majority);
    Labour, supported by SNP, Green Party, Sinn Fein, Plaid Cymru, SDLP, produces a working majority.

    Cameron refuses to quit 10 Downing Street.

    The fun starts.............

    Now that would be fun, let's face the UK government has been a circus for more years than I care to remember, they might as well put the icing on the cake.

    Unless he takes a pasting (which is looking unlikely) Cameron will have first dibs on raising support for a Queen's Speech.

    Constitutionally, the chances are we'll be into unchartered territory by the weekend.

    So gentle of you, OLM; so thoughtful.

    And there was I, erroneously believing you had a feeling for your fellow man...
