So you think paying over £100k a week plus a likely substantial signing on bonus for a 29 year old workhorse is good value? Perhaps we should resign Joe Cole, and extend Johnson's contact? They all have good experience and like to be paid extortionate wages.
Yeah, because Milner is just another Cole or Johnson It's easy to throw the £100k point about but the fact is, whoever we get is going to cost. The players you're hoping for will cost a lot more. Consisting we need (according to you) a keeper, FBs, CBs, a DM, cm and a couple of forwards, how exactly do you think we'll be able to afford them all? Bit of advise, stop playing FM or Fifa
Yes he is. Why are you settling for a 29 year old who spent most of his time on the bench? I'm sure someone will point out that Coutinho and Sturridge had limited opportunities when at bigger clubs - the difference is they were youngsters and that experience is what helped them adapt to big expectations. You're right - we can;t afford them all. But you think we can afford to splash £100k a week in wages? You do realise that in line with FFP, transfer fees are amortised across the period of the contract so that's not the biggest issue. The headline figure are wages because they hit the accounts straight away, and committing to a 3 year contract will cost us £15m which is a lot for a what is essentially a squad player. And come to think of it, there isn't any reason why we can't sign them all - there is so much value out there on the continent but we rather spunk our money on PL players because we think they have 'experience'. Fabian Schar is out of contract this summer and he is someone who will improve our FIRST TEAM. We could have got Shaqiri for HALF the price of a Lallana. And another way of being able to afford quality players - don't spend it on mediocre players like Lovren and Lallana. Simple. At the end of the day, you can accept mediocrity but I won't. You genuinely believe Skrtel, Lucas and Milner are the kind of players who will get us back to where we need to be. It's time to show some ambition - so yes, I'll happily go play FM if it means I don't have to put up with your mid-table/championship mentality.
Average wage today is 43k Wiston Reid got 80k this year In two years time the average could be 60 100k is 5mil a year or so if we bought him for 5mil it'd be cheap so if we bought lambert for 4mil and paid about 50k per week for a bench warmer..... well it adds up I'd rather we bought a top player too but there is value here even if we sold him for 3mil at e d
And I bet the likes of Sakho, Coutinho, Markovic, Can are on a fraction of what say Reid, Lallana and Lovren (all reported £80k a week). It's another reason why we can't afford to shop in the PL - transfer fees and wages are highly inflated. Going back to Milner - are we signing him because we think he'll improve the first team, or because we think being on a free represents good value? ... I suppose the same applies to Ings also.
Milner will be looking for a fairly regular starting place, and if not, used off the bench. I hope we do sign him, always thought he was a decent footballer, even as a youngster
Check this out http://www.totalsportek.com/money/liverpool-player-salaries/ They are relatively accurate Coutinho is on 75k now a young player rewarded for proving he can do it can was 50k and 10 Mil fee Over 3 years that is 15mil We pay milner that. Over 3 years the questions are: 1. Will milner play first team. 2. Does the performance of either justify expense 3. Who has value at end of period 4. Who was big risk? We would contend that milner will okay and far more than say toure. Then in the end the risk on can was higher but will pay off as he will be a 20 Mil player minimum imo by end Milner by contrast is a 2/3 year player who has to play to be value for wages
Fair points mito Some folk have said we need players who are ready now to perform at a good level rather than signing more young potential. Milner would fit that criteria,he's arguably at his peak. Little re-sale value though,as you say
That is also a fair point In the end though when you compete with club's owned by Arabs and Russian oligarchs you have to ensure you don't take a bath on players Which is why a punt on ball telling was utter crazyness in every possible way to look at it
This no longer makes a difference. All new purchases are a lottery, we can all think of many top class players who moved, failed, moved again and became good again. The best we can hope for is that the manager, scouts, committee or who ever can identify a player that will fit the team, and then hope the manager has the good sence to use him in the position that brought him to attention.
Ehhhhh yes it does Look at forbes rich list 2015 Those clubs have built huge revenue now to compete with you lot so for lfc we cannot say oh look a 28 year old here 50 Mil I want him for 3 years and to he'll with residual value We might say 22 year old 35 Mil and well... in 4 years he's worth at least that still I'd contend that if Ronaldo said I want to go you lot would form a queue to pay real money you'd never recoup just to have him for a couple of years
Another promising link via L'Equipe - Paul Georges Ntep. Quality young player. Very mixed bag of transfer targets this summer - from Milner, Benteke, to Depay, Son, Kovacic etc. Hoping that Milner and co are just a mere smokescreen ..
No idea myself on that new link I think its high time RHC gets on here and asks his mate for yes no answers to each name listed. some of these look to be either or type names so we can never tell if its leaked list of agents just using us or what.
You do realise the quality of players that have been keeping him out the team right? Although younger, you also realise Studge and Coutinho were bench warmers too right? You do realise £100k per week is £5m per year and that we could easily sell him for that next summer? You do realise our squad will have next to no experience in it once Johnson, Gerrard and Toure ****off? Every player you mention is foreign, do you know there is a homegrown ruling? PS...you forgot to put #average again
