Juventus will not make it easy imo

Nah, Messi has 77 goals in 97 CL games. Ronaldo has 76 in 114 games.

But it isn't even about # of goals. Ronaldo scored 1 goal yesterday and did almost nothing else. Messi could have scored 0 tonight and still been MOTM.

Rakitic, busquets and iniesta as a midfield just blew bayern off the park today as well

The effort and closing down, pressing was amazing

To think lallana cost the same as rakitic

Ronaldo really is not far behind Messi, different type of player, Messi I think just has more natural ability and balance. I think Ronaldo had to work exceptionally hard to get where he is, maybe it comes a little more naturally to messi, it seems to but he also works hard obviously

Busquets may be a rat of the lowest kind but he's always been underrated. Great midfielder. Rakitic was different class today, my MOTM.

I think Ronaldo will go down as an all time great. But Messi will go down as THE all time great. Ronaldo has just been unlucky to be stuck in the same era as the all time great of football and everything he does, positive or negative, is inevitably compared with Messi. And unfortunately for him he comes up short in most aspects.

in fairness to ronaldo he is technically exceptional at everything. his striking, heading and reactions are amazing but he aint no magician like messi with ball at feet. totally different tyles

Agree mate, you're right messi is the flair to ronaldo's machine. The problem for ronaldo now is age is against him. He is now playing as a typical number 9, playing further forward than in his peak when he was making runs from either wing or centrally from deep. He's 30 and his game will be more as the CF role imo. What gets missed though is how often he has changed his game over his whole career and still remained at the top.

He moved there while at United didn't he more or less by the second last season, played out wide but seldom stayed out there for long<laugh>
He REALLY looks after himself tho, I reckon he's got a couple of years yet before his legs go.

He is. But ask yourself, if you watch both regularly, what is he better at than Messi? And the only things are probably jumping, heading & penalties. What is the strongest part of his game? His goalscoring, yet Messi has outscored him over his career.

Lol yeh like I said he's changed his positions throughout. But in his final season at United or at his peak for Real he always started from deep. Now he makes his runs from the edge of the box or looks for space in the box. I agree his legs will do him another couple of years but we wont see the ronaldo of 2 years ago again imo.

Messi by comparison is a lightweight, but has low centre of gravity and imo cleverer than Ronaldo. He's got more asists than Fabergas who's just it is to provide
That was his peak, around 27 28 29, 42 league goals tho this season pfff, he's on fire, only 31 last season scored.

Messi won the awards for 4 years straight before the 2 in a Row for Ronaldo. He's gonna win it again.

Ronaldo is good to watch when he's not having a strop and when he's getting chances to attack. Messi is just good to watch full stop, when he's in the opponet's half with the ball you always expect something class from him at all times.

    I'd say

If you had to bet your life on someone finishing a chance it'd be Ronaldo

If you had to bet your life on someone making magic it'd be messi

Oh and messi minds himself a lot I reckon Ronaldo has knee issues and will be done at 32 but messi could okay on for a long time

I would say striking the ball is something Ronaldo does really well

There is actually a gulf between Ronaldo and Messi. Ronaldo main strength is attacking open space using his speed and power.

Messi can do that but also is also incredible in tight spaces and when surrounded by players.

Ronaldo is a better athlete, but Messi is by far the better footballer.

Harder? Maybe, not better though. He just gets a lot more shots than Messi off. And his free kicks are crap. Messi is much more accurate with his finishing, just because he doesn't smash it, that shouldn't be held against him IMO.

Exactly what I'm saying. I don't even see how anyone can see it as close unless you're a Man Utd/Real Madrid supporter or Portuguese and are biased.

    Fair assessment

Ronaldos technique in striking g is really clean
Clean is clean, just his technique is great that's all. Not that messi isn't

Just some balance here cos Ronaldo is to be fair a top top top player who is problem aside from Zidane the best since Maradona

Messi is the greatest though he's got the magic
