Benteke isn't all that. He's decent and after a few positive performances, he's back to being flavour of the week. He's just a physical presence but a good one.

We should be targeting a higher level.

And Ings is good for a 4/5th back up which isn't what we need. I get the feeling some fans like Ings is because he's cheap. I know he's not in the best team but I believe he's only scored 4 goals despite playing a lot of games and minutes. That's a poor return by any standard.

It's quite simple - we sign players like Depay a year before when we normally do.

He's now hot property but his talent was evident last season. Same with Lacazette.

We simply have to be smarter and quicker in the market.

Also, there were rumours that Monchi (Sevilla's DoF) was in Liverpool over the past week. Could imply that FSG want to go back to that structure. Would be a coup if we can get him.
Maybe we are smarter and quicker.. Lets see how Can, Markovic and Moreno perform over the next couple of years.

9 goals in 31 Premier League appearances according to Wikipedia.

Yep, those were shrewd signings (excl Marko but still good for potentially how he could end up). Add Coutinho, Sturridge, Sakho to that last also.

Just a shame we ended up signing dross like Lallana and Lovren.

Liverpool send scout to watch Benfica vs Porto
Posted by Rob Parker - April 27, 2015 - All News, Liverpool, Portugal, Transfer News and Gossip
Liverpool had a scout in the stands for yesterday’s Portuguese Classico between Benfica and Porto, according to O Jogo.

In a rundown of clubs that sent scouts to the big match, the Portuguese newspaper includes Liverpool’s name.

The question is, who were Brendan Rodgers’ spies sent to watch?

O Jogo doesn’t offer any clues on that front but there are a few likely contenders.

Topping that list is Porto striker Jackson Martinez, whose agent has previously claimed that Liverpool want to sign him.

Given those claims and the reports that Rodgers is keen to overhaul his strikeforce this summer, the Colombia international, aged 28, looks like the prime target.

His team-mate Ruben Neves, an 18-year-old midfielder, has also been linked with a transfer to Anfield.

Among the Benfica squad, the Reds have been credited with interest in Eduardo Salvio – although that interest has appeared lukewarm at best – and forward Anderson Talisca.

One thing Liverpool’s scout didn’t see was a goal. Proceedings ended goalless at Estadio da Luz yesterday

I just hope we finally sign a DM to replace Mascherano. Our midfield is far too weak and leaves the defence far too exposed.

My choice of DM's - Carvalho, Wanyama, Kondogbia, Gonalons, Bender.

Was something in the paper few days ago saying that Sorting had lowered their price for Carvalho to something just over £20m in the hope of getting teams interested.

No idea how reliable but more realistic than the £30m+ fee being quoted last summer.

He hasn't had the best of seasons but still talented. Quite strong rumours that we have been 'monitoring' him for a while so there is interest.

Arsenal braced for £30m transfer raid by Manchester City despite insisting Jack Wilshere is going nowhere

Wenger's recent hands-off warning has not affected plans to reopen the talent drain that whisked Adebayor, Toure, Clichy, Nasri and Sagna to the Etihad

  • Arsenal boss Wenger issued a ‘hands-off’ blast after it emerged last month that Wilshere was on outgoing champions City’s summer wish-list.
But Wenger’s stance hasn’t put off the Etihad club's top brass, who are plotting a huge squad overhaul following a poor season with recruiting homegrown talent a top priority.
And City - who saw another midfield target, Jordan Henderson, sign a new Liverpool deal last week - are pressing ahead with their attempts to pull off another audacious raid on Arsenal by lining up the huge bid for Wilshere.
City’s refusal to give up on England midfielder Wilshere is set to put him at the centre of a summer tug-of-war and leave him with a dilemma.

My sweet Jord: Liverpool have handed City target and captain-to-be-Henderson a new deal
The 23-year-old still has three years left to run on his Arsenal contract. But the Gunners are expected to bring forward talks over a new deal to this summer in a bid to extend his commitment to them and fend off City.
However Wilshere, recently back in Wenger's squad after an ankle injury, knows his place in the side is not as secure as it once was.
City have spent more than £70m in the last five years tempting Emmanuel Adebayor, Kolo Toure, Gael Clichy, Samir Nasri and Bacary Sagna north from Arsenal.
But Wenger is determined to bring an end to the Blues' habit of poaching of his stars.
When asked about their interest in Wilshere earlier this month, he said: “You can imagine my answer.
"We are not in a position where we have to sell our best players.”

his only value imo is his nationality... just as bad as sterling.

lets just say sterling is all running, bit of upper body strength and stays fit... but lousy bloody when he's got to deliver most of the time.

Whilshire is a midfielders who should be elegent and england's best passer but he's a layabout who is always injured.

All in all they could fethc 80-100 mil for the pair which is astounding.

I'd rather spend that on one big star and raise a crop of local lads to fill in at full back and the like,

Memphis Depay, Christian Benteke and Alex Song are all supposedly heading to Anfield this summer.

Aston Villa striker Benteke is set to cost £30m and may involve Rickie Lambert heading to Villa Park, it seems, while PSV Eindhoven’s Depay will command a fee of £25m.

Song is currently on loan to West Ham from Barcelona but has indicated he wants to stay in England and it is thought a £10m fee could tempt the Catalan giants into a sale.
