Suspect that because players base their decisions on the games they've played against other players they remember attackers far better than defenders.

So when choosing defenders they think 'well Chelsea are top of the league, they're a boring defensive team, they must have the best defenders. I'll vote for them.

Oh, little Southampton have a good defence.....probably down to the one from Chelsea. I'll vote for him too'

Also he took a clean sweep of Chelsea votes. It's all a bit political...but well done anyway a good honour to achieve.

It is amazing really as none of us were particularly enamoured when we signed him after his indifferent loan to Aston Villa last year.

Speak for yourself, I was quietly pleased. In fact, I'm not even sure I was that quiet about it, if you can be bothered to go back to the appropriate early season thread and find any comments from me on Bertrand.

I wasn't going to go through what every poster said, however the mood was not of great excitement compared to, for example, the signing of Tadic.

That's true. Funnily enough, I was quite meh about Tadic until I saw some highlights of his stuff on Youtube. Then I got quite excited. I think, on the whole, he's done fine for his first season. I think he found the defensive workrate hard for quite a long time, then an overall bit of fatigue set in. But he's done well enough. I think he'll do really well next season.

Guys, I love our Jose as much as the next person, but you can't really argue the PFA team selection. It is voted for BY THE PLAYERS. I think they have a little more expertise than us on this matter.

Mmm you'd think so yes, but not always the case. There are some pretty dumb players and I am damn sure some have voted for their mates who happen to play for other clubs. If the players were that bright, they might ask themselves who had the best defensive record, when selecting defenders or defensive midfielders.

Yeah maybe the odd case of that here and there, but I'm not sure I really buy it. It could just be that the majority of players in the Prem felt that Cahill was more difficult to play against than Jose, which I could totally understand. He is a quality defender, playing in a team that are 10 points clear at the top.

I think it was because he has got away with one less penalty appeal against him than Jose <whistle>
