We've had Sky in either mine or my wife's name virtually since its inception but I've been thinking of cancelling it for weeks, I just can't get my head around the fact that a % of my monthly payment, however small, goes to fund the likes of Wayne Rooney, including him screaming down a camera at me.

Today was the final straw when I received mail from them telling me that my current subscription of £57.50 a month, which doesn't include movies by the way, is going up by another £4 a month. Pushed over the edge I rang them to cancel, I was offered all of the usual ****e 'you can knock off the sport', 'I can give you a 20% reduction for 10 month', blah, blah, blah... **** that!

So I've cancelled, the only things that I would miss on Netflix would be Game of Thrones and Vikings, as to be perfectly honest I hardly ever watch the sport. So it's gonna be Netflix for me plus a laptop to stream those programs that are not available such as GOT and Vikings. I might even get a smart TV and a VPN and run Kodi, under strict guidance from Bob of course.

**** 'em, and I don't care what offers they come back with, I've had enough!

    Rant over.

Good for you, I'm thinking the same. Only problem for me is my wife is French and she likes to watch TV5 Monde which is only on Sky or a seperate dish pointing at another satellite.

To be honest I don't use it for football. Mainly just for stuff like Game of Thrones and the like.

Never had it and don't intend to. It just seems to me to increase the number of channels showing **** all but ****.
Reality shows for example, just so some ****ing knobheads can have their 5 minutes of fame.

I have been planning on doing the same, but never get round to it
My package is £70+ a month I think for full shebang and HD
Only plus is that it's shared between 3 houses using sky go
But Netflix might be my answer too
I have sports, but don't really watch it to be honest, well not that much
I did consider getting one of this things that you can chip and get loads of channels ( I can't recall what they're called but the chip to watch stuff was described as a "gift" I think?) but I didn't understand it
This thread has got me thinking again....cheers

Get yourself a minix x8 h. Turns your normal Tv into a smart Tv.

It comes with xmbc already installed, i can watch all the live games, all the latest movies and series - basically you can find anything. Obviously you need a decent broadband speed and allowance to use it. Had it a while and never looked back.

It isn't illegal either, it's just the apps and sites to download from are !!

    You see
    This is exactly the problem
That may as well be in Latin
WTF does any of it mean?!
I'm sure all these devices with names that are just a random set of numbers and letters are made by Murdoch to make sure most of us just stick to TV for simpletons!

Tbh I was the same, just a bit of reading from the Internet brought me up to speed...

Search for minix on a search engine. You can buy them from Amazon and there are step by step installation guides.
You just plug them into your tv and your router, simple as that !

    Ok
    Cheers
I have a cable installed from my router to where my telly is to hard wire stuff rather than wifi ( it hasn't got a plug on it yet but the sparks chucked it in during rewire)
Would I plug something into that?

Yes, you have to hold on to the unit with one hand, and put the fingers of the other hand into the mains.

Makes more sense than the minixfz235xfffssdx ml II nonsense!
Do you still need to set the volume control on the tape recorder carefully for downloading?

You need an Ethernet cable ( you've probably got one stuck in the back of your sky box )this plugs into the back of the box. Then an Hdmi from the box to the tv.

Just a note, this box is really used to watch online films/series/catchup Tv like bbc iplayer, Netflix etc.
I've not tried to watch Tv channels - Bbc1/2 -ITV etc..
I can normally watch live Football with English speaking commentary !!

Yeah. ( you won't need that cable with the box ) You probably had that preinstalled ready for a Smart Tv.

This box just saves you from changing your Tv. Also in the unlikely event that you get a virus/bug from downloading, this will only affect the £100 box rather than a £££s Smart Tv.

Unless you can have the box where your pre installed Ethernet cable is, you won't be able to use that one.

My internet box sits on top of my sky box its that small, I used the Ethernet cable which was in the back of my sky box ( from the router ) and plugged this into the back of my internet box. You then need an Hdmi cable from the Internet box to your tv, or use the Same one the sky box uses?!?

I cancelled it as it went up-to £46 (for everything)
They kept ringing me, I got them down to £27.00 a month for a whole year.
I cancelled it again and held out for 8 months. I renewed it at £13.50 per month for everything.
I have just cancelled it as me + my partner are getting a place together and she says who needs SKY.
Provided there are other forms of entertainment (nudge nudge) i couldn't give a rats ass whether I get it or not.

If you want a cheap deal cancel it and give it a few months...honestly it works.
