This is such a complex issue. One day the Pope says we need to do more, the next day we hear that the muslims in a boat threw a dozen Christians over the side coz they were sinking and they refused to pray to Allah. Don't get me wrong, I'm married to a Muslim, as many on here know, so I'm not having a go at the religious aspect. And has been pointed out, they're all aiming for Europe, not muslim countries. Not Saudi or any of the Emirates. Why is that? No social security benefits? No religious freedom? No work? Go figure! One boat crashed off a Greek island after leaving Turkey. Turkey!! A Muslim country aspiring to be an EU member!! Europe is seen as free, free to work, free to provide for your family, free to pray, free to socialise, free to dare to think your own thoughts, freedom from danger, freedom from poverty, freedom from judgement, freedom from persecution. The problem from our current point of view is that we're broke. We can't afford to help them. We're richer than them but not rich enough to maintain our current lifestyles AND help them. Ain't modern life just one big ****ing bitch!
Oh stops Comm in his tracks.. I have no logical argument with this post. It;s so good and so true, you have me stumped, actually lost for words. Well done.
Because we all revert to type Grandpops. Ask any emigrant abroad. When I was out in Saudi I was more english out there than I was back home. So were the Yanks. So were the Aussies. Humans can't deny who they are at heart, and sooner or later we revert to type. Our traditions. Our psychologies. So it's only naturally they'd ultimately want they they're used to. It's only human mate.
My view is that we should be aiming to stop them before the take to the seas, and hitting the people hard who are supplying the transport..
The grass is always greener Grandpops. Until you get there and find the streets aren't paved with gold. That the riches of the west aren't all they're made out to be. Another factor about sharia over here is the influence of the local imams. They're economic migrants as well. But they're also steeped in hundreds of years of medieval dogma. And they can only preach what they know, not what they know and how it adapts to the west they now find themselves in. It's so easy to throw stones. It's what we all do. The hard part is stepping back and getting the perspective. Most of us don't, and that's what the politicians pray upon.
From Libya? How do we do that? We've just been there and removed the only working government they've had for the last 40 years or so. Oh yeh, we didn't like Gadaffi. So how's that worked out for us?
Not easy I agree, but neither is trying to rescue thousands of them getting dumped in the ocean and then trying to accommodate the ones who get across...It will mean making some tough calls, but for me it is the only way..
Not at all mate. We were all over there for a few years just to make a few big bucks, so the need to post a flag and stand around it wasn't there. I can see where you're going but It's not quite the same. They're coming over here for life, we weren't, so our "need" to be Christian or whatever over there was never an issue. I remember, at Christmas, they took all the fairy lights off the shelves and the fruit cakes as well in case we wanted to make Christmas cakes. We still had a ****ing good Christmas though. We adapted and enjoyed ourselves.
Gaddafi asked for 5 billion euros a year to stop immigration from libia he was quoted as saying europe will turn black unless it is more rigorous in turning back immigrants ,we dont know if europe will remain an advanced and united continent or if it will be destroyed ,then we got rid of him ffs
oh so the christians went there with skills and they still wouldnt let you make a cake on the 25th of december what sort of democracy is that
Okay, so the bugger deserved a bullet. So what's easier for us? 5 billion euros a year or feeling guilty for a few days while it's on the news? Once it's news that we're paying him 5, 10, 15, 20 billion over a few years during a period of extreme austerity there'd be hell to pay in every capital in Europe! Are you going to remember the 1,000 or so who drowned over the last few days in 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months, 3 years? Gotta be honest mate, I wont. I guess that makes me a heartless son of a bitch, but I have a really busy life and I easily forget the **** I've had to deal with just yesterday, never mind 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months ago or 3 years ago.
Saudi isn't a democracy Paul, it's a kingdom. And I put that in just to lighten the mood as an aside.
i know it isnt a democracy and i put that in just to lighten the mood next you will be telling me women cant drive there
Aye, them & Canada have got it right. If you have the skills we need you can come in. Otherwise, get tae ****.
