    Well I never said UK...:)

The 'prophetic' reference was related to the lead singer's death six months after the song was released, with rumours abounding that the LAPD were responsible.

Well done - and to be honest, I doubt I would have got it myself without clues. :)

The title of the song remains firmly in the American lexicon, having been used in many a film, tv show and video game - and to be honest, I still find the tune to be infectious...

    Over to you.

Cheers BB. Sticking with music, a classic trivia question. What do the following number one singles have in common:

    Annies Song - John Denver
    Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
Ballad of John and Yoko - The Beatles
    Space Oddity - David Bowie
    Unchained Melody - Righeous Brothers

The clue for me is the first of those listed - Annie's Song. I often used to wonder why it was called that when those words were never actually repeated in the lyrics. So I presume the rest are the same?

    Verse 3...
I hurried back to the swimming pool
    sippin' Pina Colada
I heard a dark voice beside me say
    Would you like something harder
She said I've got it you want it
    My harvest is the best
And it you try it you'll like it
And wallow in a Dreadlock Holiday.

    ..and final chorus -

    I don't like cricket
    I love it Dreadlock Holiday
    I don't like reggae
    I love it Dreadlock Holiday
    Don't like Jamaica
    I love her Dreadlock Holiday

Going back to the theme of death and conspiracy theories, which rose grower, born in 1906, was said to have been murdered by British Intelligence - a claim made twice in Parliament?

I stand corrected, obviously not listened properly, in my head the chorus, where you have "dreadlock holiray", I have "oh yeah!" <doh>

What is the link between Bermondsey, 1983, Simon Hughes and Jack the ripper?

Simon Hughes won the Bermondsey by-election for the Liberals in 1983 - and, if I'm not wrong, that was the first appearance of the Monster Raving Loony Party. Dressing in outlandish costumes for these events was a trademark of Screaming Lord Sutch, so I'd guess he dressed as Jack the Ripper for it?
