I somehow doubt the board and shareholders are about to shrug their shoulders and say "Oh, that's shame, but hey ho - it was only £8m plus add-ons we've seen slip through our fingers / bank account"
I think they'll want to at least try and reintegrate him into the squad/team - unless silly money is offered in the meantime. And with relative failure since he left Sporting Lisbon, that looks very unlikely :(

I have no doubt that the board will very much take that view Cromer, but I honestly cannot see how he would improve the current squad. The best case scenario for me is to get some reasonable money for him and write the rest off against the shedload of wonga that will come to us if we make it back to the Prem. I would rank him behind Jerome, Hooper, Grabban and possibly others and that is forgetting our main striker right now, Mr. Johnson.

I still think he could be a good player, for us or someone else. Ultimately it comes down to what AN thinks of him and whether he can fit into his plans. If AN doesn't fancy him as a player then hopefully someone will to allow us to recoupe as much as possible, even just half and his wages back would be OK, though I'd love to see him succeed with us. Not sure he could but there was natural enough talent to interest us and some bigger PL fish before so it's not entirely out of the question.

    Bah!

Cheers Munky - didn't realise how long it was. Amazing how you get consumed by family problems. Talking of players who supporters want to hold on to in case they come good. Remember Michael Spillane who was another promising youngster 10 years ago. I watched a Conference South game a couple of weeks ago and guess who now plays for Sutton Utd!!

i agree. still think he could be a good striker, treated right and given good service. at the end of the day the lad is an international. also cant agree with some that he never looked interested,i always thought he tried, but you could see,he was playing with no confidence. maybe A.N could sort that

As I said earlier Thurnby I do not think the Board/Club can take any other view and nor can I see anybody else being interested in him for obvious reasons. We might have the same financial loss situation with other players but with clearing this years losses, the huge costs of operating a Premiership squad and money needed to try and stay up for more than just one season there is not a lot left of the shedload of wonga to just throw away on losses on the likes of RVW and Lafferty etc etc

Lafferty is also an International in fact a current International scoring goals for his Country - do you want him in next years squad as well? You obviously saw a different RVW to me - yes he made a few promising runs down the channels but his overall attitude to me seemed one of not caring a toss.

I couldn't care less about how he perfomed or his attitude when he came and played for Norwich, that's history. All I care about is what the current manager thinks of him and if he fits into his plan, and if he can get him playing wiht belief- if so he could be a very good player. Of course, he may not feature and may not adopt the right attitude, then he can feck off

Fecking off is often easier said than done. You need him to want to feck off and there has to be somewhere for him to feck off to - as with Mark Bunn.

with all due respect to northern ireland, playing for holland is a whole different level. i can see how you thought that about him towards the end of his time with us,but i think by then the damage was done, and his confidence was shot to bits. i just think he has a lot more about him,and i am not the only one. you do not become that bad overnight, and i think a lot of his issues was bad man managment and poor supply

I think you are getting carried away a bit. He played twice for Holland 5 years ago in friendlies - one against Indonesia. I think the International career of Lafferty rates higher than that. Has he shown enough to hold down a place in a restricted Premiership squad? I don't think so but financial considerations might well enable us to find out.

The least AN should do is have a good luck as if he can repolish the diamond, he would essentially be getting a free striker

I've said it before, but I think he could be a different player with our present squad and the emphasis on playing through balls rather than head height crosses. At any rate, I'd like to see him given a chance to compete in the pre-season and let AN make the decision.

Through balls are certainly the key for me for him to succeed, that and short balls from byline.

Maybe Alex Neil will take a look at him in the pre season and make a judgement if he can use him or not. He did miss a few good chances last season but I think some people forget he was out for most of that season and when he came back he was still playing with a bad toe. I love for him to come back and score 15 odd goals, think we all like to see that.

1950, I was one of those most concerned about Alex Neil's appointment, but after 13 wins, 3 draws, and 2 losses, I am very happy to have been proved wrong. I'd say let him decide RvW's future.

Fully agree Rick. Going right back, my original point was that I hoped the situation didn't develop where financial circumstances forced his inclusion in the squad and I stand by that
