Just to indulge you for a second Yorkie! Supposing you get your wish and Mick leaves in the Summer just tell me who is likely to come in given the fact that we have an invisible owner who refuses to spend any money on players? Who do you see as a viable alternative and why?
I think your a little harsh on ME Warky I honestly believe that if Mick didn't receive the support and backing he wanted he would be the first to say so and walk imo.........also none of the managers have slagged him off in fact I can recall only positive things said by MM and the previous managers in the Evans era.........
I have heard rumours of a Willy Wonka style competition where 5 lucky people that find a golden season ticket will get the chance to meet the man.....
I think that maybe the tone is set by the manager....Keane comes and says give me ten million and I'll get us up...fail.....jewell says give me however many million and I'll get us up......Mick comes in and says give me 3/4 years and I'll get us up and improve the infrastructure through the acadamy.
I don't see what the fuss and annoyance is with ME being "invisible". What exactly do you want from the guy, other than giving MM a few million to spend on players? Personally, i couldn't give two hoots wether ME is in the public eye or not, it won't and doesn't make a difference. What would make a difference, is getting quality players in. I think ME (and possibly MM) made a big mistake in not strenghtening the squad in January when we were top two. I think MM was a tad arrogant in that he thought we could maintain our form and at least make the play offs, with the squad we had. As Weighty said, if Mick wanted more funds to buy players, and was refused, then he will be the first to know you can't flog a dead horse and will walk in the summer. I'm sure MM knew ME's plan and that would probably have entailed not being given funds for a few years whilst the club is stabilised financially, whch in all sense in purposes, he's achieved. As i've said on numerous occaasions, MM was the right man at the right time - but is not the man to take us to the next level. If you're going to ask who that man is, then i don't know - But, if the likes of Middlesboro, Watford and Brentford can find relative unknowns (to us) - then i don't see how or why we can't find a manager that can take us up a level.
As for the OT and McKay - two years ago i would've said yes please, but i think the investigation and all thats surrounding it has definitely taken it's toll on the man (i also said that Aidy Bothroyd would become a good premiership manager when he was with Watford - and look what happened to him!)
Warburton is leaving Brentford, at the end of the season, and Lambert could do the same job here, as what he did at Norwich
Hiring Paul Lambert could be a good risk. He advocates the type of football that many on here would like to see and he does have a preference for signing young, domestic players. He was also a success in this division with an admittedly very good Norwich City side. Having said that, his time at Aston Villa was a categoric failure and I struggle to see how anybody can convincingly argue that he improved that Villa side in the two/three years he was there. Villa's style of football under Lambert morphed from patient, attacking football, to just possession-based football for the hell of it, rarely showing any attacking intent, and, of course, their notorious failure to consistently score this season while he was in charge. I also struggle to think how well he could work on a budget. A lot of his best transfers at both Norwich and Aston Villa were fairly big-money moves and he relied on a decent-sized transfer budget, so I struggle to think he could bring in a better calibre of player than McCarthy has done. Warburton could be a shrewd appointment. It would be interesting to see how he would fare with an 100% say on transfers. He'd arguably get us playing good football, but he lacks football experience against McCarthy. He'd get us playing good football, but how far would he have to overhaul the squad to get the players playing his way, and how much would that cost to do it right?
I don't think you'll hear much of Warburton after this season. I don't think he'll have much success once he leaves Brentford. He's only had two good years with one club, and at his age, doesn't have any other managerial experience. IMO, if you're going to go with someone with little managerial experience, ideally i would prefer someone a bit younger with more enthusiasm with fresh ideas
There is no point in throwing out the baby with the bath water when we are only half way through the McCarthy project. It took 3 seasons to get Wolves promoted when they were in a worse mess than us! The key here is patience something that we have always been renowned for, It's a pity Sheepshanks showed none of that to Burley or Royle but that's all in the past. This club has suffered plenty from chopping and changing especially during the Evans years. No matter where we finish now we should stick by Mick and trust his judgement for next season imo. The worst thing we can do now is to change course.
Burley was here for eight years. But I agree, he should have been given more time after we suffered relegation. Although Royle could well have got us up with a bit more luck (and possibly cash).
To be fair Warky I think both Keane and Jewell were given plenty of time to prove that they wouldn't get anywhere.........I agree however that Mick should continue We have progressed every season under him so why change....imo.
