Worse feeling than 09/10 when you could see it coming from the start of the season. We should have done a Palace and consolidated mid-table but we'll lose half the squad and be back in the Championship soon enough.
We will 'offload' some players at the end of the season but, should we get relegated, we will not lose 'half the squad' as I very much doubt that any Premier League Team will come in for any of our players, Robertson being the exception.
Robertson, Chester, Diame, Jelavic, Hernandez, McGregor, Harper, Davies, Brady would all likely leave.
I doubt it Syd, I cannot see any Premier League team coming in for any of them other than Robertson and a fellow Championship Club wouldn't pay them what we are. Harper is retiring I believe
So Harper wouldn't be with us next season. Jelavic has scored 8 goals this season in about 20 games. People will buy him. The others are young enough that they'd interest bigger clubs. Elmo would come under scrutiny too.
I have no qualms with Jelly but he has played 22 games this season and missed 9 through injuries. Turns 30 in August and earning a good quid with us. Cannot see him getting a better offer from anywhere else.
Yes, both contracts are up in the summer. McShane should be offered a new contract imo (always puts in a shift) but if we do get relegated he would be one who just might get an offer from a newly promoted team maybe.
IF we go down & I don't think we will! I hope allam steps up and thinks no ones leaving and with the team we've got we'll piss the championship & come straight back up? ( hopefully )
THIS............I just wish that a football club on relegation would turn round to the so called better players looking to jump ship and say all you ****ers are under contract and going nowhere. Obviously this is finances permitting, but I would imagine our current squad would get us straight back up!!!
Look at Palace's squad... It's still their Championship squad with one or two additions like Puncheon and Ledley. It's nothing spectacular, but they've had the spirit to fight for points. The money we've spent, we should be in Palace's position - it only highlights the lack of effort shown this season by a lot of our players in winnable games.
That only works in some cases... Newcastle and West Ham being the exceptions, but they're big clubs who the players are happy to play for. In most cases you get a slump in form because the big-time charlies want to be in the league above, so sulk and underperform instead of fighting for the club they're at to get there. They want the easy option of jumping ship.
yes Newcastle did it and I can imagine the fans had a great time in the process! It is a risk if you don't go straight back up financially but it's worth it! Let's hope we don't have to though eh?
As I've suspected all along is the players play for Bruce not us! He's the reason they're here! And I'm sure he would keep all the ones he wants?
The wage bill is around £50 million a year. Yes there will be relegation clauses but they work both ways. Its cheaper for us, but also cheaper for other teams to offer better wages. It also depends on whether the player wants to stay.
It is pretty sad that you've just beaten your rivals & he's posting rubbish on a Hull City forum. A team who mean nothing to Sunderland fans. He should be out getting pissed.
