OK mate, well if that's so, then fine.

You were a bit harsh on Cromer, who's a good lad and hardly renowned for his wumming.

We should all relax and bit and do a forum default reset. <ok>

I'm not saying Hootun was anything like an attacking, expansive manager while in charge of us, only a fool would think that and I've never tried to argue that he was. I don't think he was as negative as a lot of people try to preach however, I really don't. I'd say he was pragmatic rather than negative, and I'm sorry but I just find it such as lazy and over-simplistic argument when I read (what I consider to be) nonsense about how he "destroyed" our strikers or "drained the confidence" from them. Load of old hyperbolics if you ask me.

I'm sorry, but if Ricky was as good as a lot of folk want to believe him to be then he'd have scored goals in any formation, rather than the piddly one that he did. He had chances, and whilst I agree he did show some good movement at times, too often he'd go missing in games, I don't recall him making too many assists or even creating chances for others let alone himself. I'm not saying he's terrible, I think he's decent enough, has a good touch and technical ability and he clearly does have ability as he's scored a fair few goals in other less competitive leagues in Europe, though he seems to be struggling to make any kind of impression in France of late. Couple of Dutch caps as well that I'm sure they don't just give away so I'm not putting him on any list of "worst ever players" or anything, and I'm not writing him off altogether, I just saying from what I've seen I just don't think he's anywhere near as good as being made out, and find it disrespectful to others when all his failings are met with excuses blaming it all on his manager, or Snodgrass for example. I don't get this 'hard-done-by' poor little Ricky thing that is being talked about as if it was as simple as that, think it's unfair and not a true representationn of what happened. Also I've read people saying things like he tried hard to start with, but then gave up because of our style of football as if that's ok. Really? Maybe I'm asking too much, but I'd personally want my £8.5m, £35k a week star striker to show a bit more spirit than that

I just don't agree with a lot of the stuff I'm reading, that's all. It's no love I have for Hootun, or dislike for Ricky, I'm just calling it as I see it, as I always try to do.

Sorry if that offends anyone, never my intention <ok>

    Agree with TMC

Work rate would have come from anyone on this thread but doesn't mean we can play football at the top level. RvW, no matter how much we all wanted him to be a €10k striker never looked anything like it.
And remember it was McNally that pushed for the move, not Hughton. He saw a business opportunity when it was obvious Sporting were having trouble meeting their wage bill. We signed a player that had been thoroughly looked at by more than one Premier League club including Liverpool, and rejected, not because he was over valued (at €17k I seem to remember), but that he wasn't good enough.

And man, did he miss some sitters......

Fair comment flicky, but so did Grabban in the first part of the season.
I'm sure RvW's confidence wasn't helped by CH's 'love child' - Snoddy decided he was taking the penalty against Villa and then refusing to pass the ball to him when he was in a good position to at least get a shot on goal.

Sorry, but can we please, please PLEASE stop with this "love child" stuff, it is quite frankly embarrassing and is one of the more ill-informed nonsensical things I read on here. Bassong is another who gets that tag, and correct me if I'm wrong but weren't he and Snoddy the two most recent winners of the Barry Butler award, voted for by the FANS?

I love reasoned debate on here, even if I don't agree with a lot of it, but some of the stuff I read sometimes is utter gibberish.

Very well argued, TMC. Nobody is saying that Hughton was wonderful, but meaningless 'hyperbolics' ( a particularly nice touch, Munky, but were you tempted to misspell the end of that? ;)) are meaningless. Make arguments about the football by all means, because that makes for interesting discussion but simplistic dismissal comments don't add anything and are often intended to kill discussion.

As for RvW, he did look much better early in the season, but injuries and his failure to score did make things difficult for him. My feeling is that we're unlikely to get much if he leaves and it could be worth the gamble that he finds his form again if given another chance.

JR, your point about the penalty was a good one, but was rather spoiled by the 'love-child' bit. Well done you for acknowledging that and, no, the 'naughty step' might be one too far GE! <laugh>
