Who is old enough to remember when games were played on Easter Saturday and Easter Monday? When pitches dried out and the ball bounced as if it was hitting concrete? Ah the good old days .....

Well thanks to the Premier League we no longer have this weekend festival of football in the top division, however there is plenty of football in the Championship starting today with some tasty fixtures

    Brum v Rotherham
    Brighton v Norwich
    Fulham v Brentford
    Boro v Wigan
    Wall v Charlton
    Forest v Wolves
    Ipswich v Bournemouth 17;15 ko
    Derby v Watford 19:45 ko

Should be enough to keep us going for the afternoon.....

Heard on the radio earlier this week that Derby's sudden loss of form is apparently linked to their expensive loan signings pissing the squad off, surprised McLaren has let something like that happen...

What, you mean a player with an agent/dad who thinks he's as good as James Rodriguez might have an attitude that pisses off the rest of the Derby squad? You must be crazy, it's not like Forest also went on a downturn whilst he was there, oh wait...

Even more so when you realise if he had we wouldn't have been able bring N'Doye in because our wage bill is right on the limit of what we're allowed. (The PL monitors it on a month-month basis)

Bugger......Is it just Hull that the PL are monitoring? Surprised they aren't checking us as our wages last year were 175% (or there abouts) of income.

FFS even when he's not playing the media love in of Harry Kane continues......

    From beeb text
    Stats of the day

Only Harry Kane (29) has scored more goals in all competitions in England's top four tiers this season than Benik Afobe (28).

BTW Wolves have gone 1 up at Forest....

Probably everyone. It only came out with us because when we were in talks with N'Doye we had to get him to lower his demands, and it was in one of those articles they said they keep tabs with a monthly update. I know our wage bill can be (and is) £56M/yr so I guess you'd just have to work out what change that could be for you from last season.

From memory our wage bill last year (to 31st May) was around £75m when you include national insurance.........eye watering amounts.

I imagine the journey home will be a whole lot brighter if Pompey can hang on their 2-1 lead thanks to Matt Tubbs, who is one of those lower league players who always seems to be able to find the back of the net, like Brett Pitman, Simon Cox, Jamie Cureton and even our own Charlie, who showed he could also do it the Premier League.

Quite the turnaround by Millwall at home to Charlton winning 2-1 after being a goal down.

In the West London derby, Brentford 4-1 winners at Fulham with two 90' goals (Att: 23,271). Fulham will likely stay up because everyone else down there is so bad (Rotherham & Wigan losing). So much for the Malky Mackay revival.

I put the kiss of death on Pompey conceding late to Carlisle 2-2.

When Pompey & R's shared the same league in the late 60's, early 70's I used to travel down to Fratton Park to watch the games.

In League 1 in his relegation battle with Notts County Paul Hart picked up another point in a 0-0 draw away to Walsall, so he appears to have at least stopped the Shaun Derry rot with points in both games he has managed.

Notts County manager Paul Hart told BBC Radio Nottingham:

Hart on Notts County v Walsall

    http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/32081178

"It was a very well-earned draw. I'm delighted with the players. They grafted and worked very hard. Walsall are not a bad side, so it's a great point for us.

"We were under the cosh in the first 20 minutes, but I changed it and we got hold of the game after that.

"It had to be a foul in the area on Garry Thompson, he was going to head it in. But I thought we were very disciplined, and all that was missing was the win."

South coast neighbours, The Cherries got off to similar start to Pompey conceding a goal after just 6 mins at The Tractor Boys, who are also in the promotion mix. Wouldn't be surprised if they get back into this game as they seem to score a lot of goals - all Bournemouth after conceding, but no goals - HT 1-0 Ipswich.

Many of these Championship matches have live feeds on Bet365 if you maintain an a semi-active account. Placing small wagers on our matches in a losing cause this season I have now lost all the money ($70) that I won when we beat Derby at Wembley, when I bet an R's win after Gary O'Neil was sent off. He stayed on the bench today in Norwich's 1-0 win at Brighton.

Back in the sort of, good old days at Ipswich - I think we should have hung onto him and Simpson for backup, and Mutch of course, to bolster our squad, when we currently have Zarate wasting that #25 squad spot.

Eddie Howe brings on Kenwyne Jones as a late sub and he scores for Bournemouth with his first kick of the same (1-1) - he was signed on deadline day from Cardiff - that's the type of impact sub that we always seem to be lacking.

They almost won it too at the death FT 1-1

First ever first team match v Darlington 4-0 Good Friday 1967 followed by Gillingham Easter Saturday 2-0. Perhaps if we had lost those two, I would have saved myself so many years of anguish and pain!!!!
