I'm really having trouble understanding where Barnes is getting the idea he isn't being hired because he is black from. This sounds like someone who believes they have more skills than they actually have......It beggars belief that any club chairman in this country would turn down any manager who has any decent aptitude just because of his colour.
He may have been a decent player but that doesn't mean he can carry his talent in his feet to managing the modern day footballers and the knowhow of being a decent strategist. Having been trained by Decent managers does not give you the gift of the decision making process even with training skills.
So it rather smacks of Barnes trying to use his past fame to get him past the interview process rather than his management skills.

That's 5%, pretty good start I'd say, but I'll be zero again next season. I don't believe there is a colour bar though, just a really competitive industry role that very few well known players make a mark in.

Makes you wonder what level he thinks he should slot in at. Although I doubt a host of L2 clubs have approached him, I'd guess that's not what he's looking for anyway. It would be nice, & relevant if one of his old Celtic players could give us some insight.
Barnes is talking absolute rubbish, oddly i feel a bit embarrassed for him as i just loved the guy as a player.

That he was not good enough is a reasonable analysis. Generalising that it is a typical attribute of black people to blame racism for their career shortcomings is blatant racism. No more of that, thanks.
You see this a lot in life with University graduates and those that have been made redundant often find it hard to accept work of a lower standing in relation to their qualifications and experience.
Unlike Mr. Barnes most people have to lower their expectations as finances dictate. I suspect Mr. Barnes is in a healthy position that he can sit about and bemoan the world from the comfort of his favourite chair.
I would be very surprised that a league 2 or conference side would not employee John Barnes if he made a concerted effort to apply for a managers vacancy and kept his wage demands sensible
I think what would give us a better idea is:
1. What percentage of the players getting coaching badges are black
2. What percentage of players that are coaches are black
This may allow us to evaluate if there are any barriers such as social circles or choice of career after finishing playing.

Another influence is the wages the players earn.
Many of them don't need to go into coaching and certainly don't need to pursue a career as stressful and as time consuming as football management.
Most top players from the late 90s are pundits
I want to know what would be deemed a fair percentage and also how many women or not-football related managers there should be too?
What is this fair % idea? Why should all jobs be divided up 'fairly'. Who decides which club can't choose their manager from the best, but has to fulfil some quota system. Oh sorry, Chelsea...it's your turn to have a woman or black person as manager...you don't have to pick a black woman, but it would prove useful. Ridiculous. Fair enough to investigate the reason...perhaps black players could be encouraged to get their badges or to apply perhaps, but a quota system is unworkable.
I can tell you only one woman is managing in the English Womens premier league.
I suspect the number of women managers in the EWPL will increase with time as more women become interested in management as a career and take their badges. Many women probably finish their playing careers and need a job that fits in better with their families. The number will increase if the particular problems that women face is addressed. Pretty sure things will change in a decade or so.

Maybe you don't understand that it is but the statement in bold is racist. You're generalising black people by suggesting they all act in the same way.
