MITO for the purposes of the mafia win condition (number is greater than the town) does the serial killer still count as a town person even though a 1 man team?

  2. Mafia win when they can out vote all other players so I'd guess the serial killer would effectively count as a townie in that instance

No for purposes of arguement a mafia team only wins when all other teams are dead and that team out numbers town

So serial killer is a solo team and has kills so if he is alive game is still on

Serial killer has very hard job to actually win and the cop and journo are his enemies

With the rules as they are atm (if I skim read them correctly), serial killer has almost no chance of winning.

He would almost certainly have to survive coin flips if he targets anyone else with powers, and would have to survive a coin flip in a lynching scenario before killing the last townie as well. Also masons and mafia could easily identify him if there are two of them left come the end. Sounds like it is just a role for creating as much carnage and random violence as you can before you die.

Tbh I would also give the serial killer a coin flip chance of surviving the lynch mob the first time he is targeted. He comes out high on meth, axe swinging, naked as the day he was born and goes for the lynch mob.

Then there is a coin flip whether he is lynched or whether he kills a random one of the people who voted for him to be lynched and runs off into the night. So if four people vote for him there is a 20% chance they get him and an 80% chance he gets one of them (20% each) then escapes.

From then on the serial killer is known, but the same rules apply - any attempt to lynch him comes down to a coin flip between him and a random one of the people he voted for. It would add an extra element to the voting, as the other teams would have to choose whether it is worth taking the risk of hunting down the axe wielding loon, or trying to hunt down the other teams and in the process giving the serial killer free reign to kill others.

But even if the town identify the killer they can leave him if he's killing mafia

The killer should target the mafia first as if he kills the town first the mafia know who he is and just kill him

The killer needs as much town people alive to better hide his identity

He has a symbiotic relationship with the town

Also the masons and journalist should not publicly out the killer for these reasons

If who ever get the re really thinks on it, well it's not this bad. Yes it takes a lot of skill to pull off but it's an interesting role so do you want easy win or a challenge?

This is a challenge but if you think on what powers are you will see some stuff and strategies to win

Aye, in the short run they leave him alone. But in the end game, when one side is getting close to victory, the serial killer has little chance of surviving until the end, as he needs to kill everyone without getting targeted or identified by the journo and has to survive a coin flip for the last lynch.

He won't be killed off straight away, but I find it hard to see a plausible scenario in which he can actually win the game without a lot of luck.

I don't think there needs to be any changes to what he can do in terms of targeting and killing people, but maybe a bit more protection from being lynched, particularly if one of the sides gets quite dominant, would help make the role a bit more interesting without being easy imo.

Even though it's difficult I think it would be one of the most fun roles

How about multiple winners. Say if the serial killer manages to survive long enough that all police and journalist are kille and he manages kill 5 people off his own accord? :p

    Everyone needs luck

Think about how many players there are and how each is a needle in haystack

It's very hard to win as serial killer but that's the point.

This is game 5 and some are wanting ever more complex games. Dunno who will get it but it's up to them, let's see by day 3 or 4 who knows who is and who gets lucky

In short you all see the basic rules, I'll say no more some on Sunday will get specific role info and the rest of you? Well...

  13. Agree with that. When I when the seven hundred and eighty six pages of rules last night, the serial killer role was the one that interested me most. Wouldn't mind being the journo either.

Love the fact anyone can submit a random advert in the paper...

Think that's going to be the most fun part, writing and reading some random **** on there.... some people probably need to prepare for some abuse <laugh>

Bloody hell you lot post a lot - I'll do well to keep up! <laugh>

My apologies in advance to whoever my team mates are. I usually get in from work between 7-8, so will do my very best to review the day's posts and make a useful contribution before the deadlines. <ok>

By the way, to make things simple, I will revert back to my better known user name of OBI WAN before the games commence. So The Sinful Dwarf will so be no more and will be replaced by by the wise Jedi Master. <ok>

This game looks awesome by the way MITO. <ok> Though I'm going to have to read the rules at least twice more before Sunday <laugh>

My advice to all including rhc btw is that you can skim the thread pretty easily and get an impression, you don't have to read everything in detail if you are looking for patterns

That gives you posting patterns. If you're going to do that then the first couple of days you should pay attention to who isn't posting. Mafia usually start off hiding, wait for someone else to suggest someone to vote for, then jump on the easy targets.

Theorem: Anyone who seems guilty in the first 2 nights is probably innocent.
