Firstly I'm new to this forum, and sorry if this has been discussed on other threads! So, I've read this morning that Saints have the best conversion rate of penalties scored in the Premier League. 52 out of 55 to be exact. So, we all know MLT missed one against Forest. Dusan missed one this season against Burnley, but who is the third. I've been following Saints since the start of the Premier league and I can't remember. My hunch is Magilton? Anyone know?
If Dusan is the best of all our players at penalty taking (barring JWP maybe...), I wouldn't be too confident in a shoot out! Although I feel Forster could be a decent pen stopper! Maybe Alderweireld should take them..................
Why would JWP be any good at penalties? he is yet to prove to me that he's any good at set pieces. I know everyone thinks he is amazing at them but as of yet i can't remember him delivering too many decent set pieces for him to deserve such a glowing reputation.
Guess we've been spoilt over the years with the likes of MLT & SRL taking our penalties but on the evidence so far there's got to be a better penalty taker than Dusan?
I never said every set piece he took was ****, i just don't get the hype surrounding him, personally for me everyone see's his technique and thinks wow he's got a good delivery, when in truth the majority of his deliveries are poor and more times than not are really pretty dreadful and over hit.
Just my opinion flt, just because he's a well spoken academy graduate doesn't mean he's as good as everyone thinks. To be honest i think we would need alot better players than him to compete consistently as a top 6 club.
I know where you are coming from; I am pulling your leg. I think he needs to step up a level, however he still has time on his hands. On the over hit part, it drives me nuts that we don't have anyone coming around the back deep at set-pieces.
I'd like to know why Pellè didn't take the one against Burnley. He wasn't on the pitch for the other two we've had this season, but he is our leading striker, so why did Tadić step up for that one?
He'll be designated penalty taker. Striker's aren't always the penalty takers - Lampard, Baines and Gerrard clear examples.
Fair enough, but there must be other candidates. Toby's free kick yesterday must put him in with a shout surely?
But he's a CF! He can blast it accurately whereas CB's tend to just blast it. Lovren was most kind to demonstrate.
Well that's the curious thing about how tame Tadic penalties have been for us, he's practically been a specialist, scored 12 penalties in his two previous seasons and I remember seeing his record when he joined was something like 14/15, which isn't Rickie standard but pretty damn good going.
