Morning all. The good runs being put together by our serious competitors is throwing some of us into a spin. I confess to uttering the odd expletive when I saw Spurs result yesterday. However I am offering a cure for the "bugger-the-team-are-blowing-it" blues. It is to focus on some real low points of the past few years and consider what happened next. Nigel Adkins' barnstorming opening of a defeat against MK Dons followed by the dullest of 0-0 draws against Rochdale. This left us languishing in the Div 1 relegation zone. A particular favourite is the 2-0 defeat at Tranmere when Jose and Kelvin played the excuse me. I love that one because we were so shockingly awful, and it was the third successive occasion I had seen us lose there, and given the Rovers' sad demise since it seems particularly poignant. Going 1-0 up at Middlesboro and then losing features for me. So, fellow sufferers, I invite you to share those moments when you wonder why you let this team torture you. They're moments we need to recall when cursing that we've plummeted to the low point of being 7th in the Premier League.
Ma March 1995 when at 2-0 up at half time me and my mates were seriously working out logistics for getting FA cup quarter final tickets, Spurs shellshocked us with 6 second half goals!
Ah. Tranmere again. Scant consolation, but it is Rovers' highlight. I'm told that photos of that night still adorn the walls of the Directors' Lounge. Definitely a low point, and the most bizarre I have ever seen
Tadic missed pen against Burnley then we ended up losing 1-0 from recent times. And in the years past the 7-0 drubbing we got against Everton in the mid nineties ......gutted for ages.
I literally cried after that match* *Disclaimer: I was a child at the time The only time I've left a match early for football reasons. My Dad had had enough at 4-2. I can still hear those faint Spurs cheers in my nightmares as we walked down the Archers Road as quickly as we could. At school someone then replaced the Ronnie Ekelund graffiti in the boys toilets with Ronnie Rosenthal
Can I throw in Sunderland FA Cup last year? Also throwing away 2 goal lead against Villa in relegation season.
Losing 1-0 to Bristol Rovers in the 5th round of the FA Cup was infuriating. I'm struggling to think of a Cup defeat that I would put above it (I saw the Sheff Utd Cup defeat this season coming). Still, at least the guy who took the free-kick did kind of make up of for it over the following few years.
