It's not something I see myself but Spurf and some of the other Spudlings keep telling themselves they are this brilliant to watch footballing side - carrying virtue far above the mere winning of trophies. They wouldn't swap this enviable 'style' for cups, of course not. So, who are the most entertaining sides you've ever witnessed and where will the great Spurs side of 2015 sit alongside these other greats?? Brazil world cup winners 1970, maybe the greatest ever national team Arsenal's 'invincibles' who went a whole league season without losing a game, winning the league title in the process Chelsea's record breaking 103 goals in a season league and cup double winning side in 2010 Barca 2009-2012 winning 2 European cups and countless domestic titles with the brilliant tika taka Maybe some of the great Dutch sides. Gullit, Van Bastan etc.
I too am puzzled by this. Not entirely sure where this delusion comes from. I guess its to console themselves when they get ****ty results, which is often.
Milan late 80s France in the 98 world cup United treble winners Arsenal's invincibles Chelsea 04-06 Barca under Pep Bayern under Jupp Heynckes and believe it or not, I actually think Liverpool were very entertaining to watch last season aswell as Spurs when they were at their peak under Redknapp. Definitely not at the level of the above teams but still pleasing on the eye.
They are definitely not as attractive as Arsenal or Liverpool in full flight. That 5-3 against us was a one off that has brain washed them into thinking they are better than they are.
I was very young but the Dutch national side of 1974 was entertaining with Johan Cruyff and their 'Total Football' style of play. The best Spuds side I remember was circa 1981 with Glenn Hoddle and Osvaldo Ardiles.
Yeah BB has it spot on That dutch side with Jonny Rep Ari Haan Rensenbrink and Neeskins, throw in Cruyff and it was wonderful to watch although they never won anything.
I'm with you there, that team played revolutionary football with every player an attacker and a defender. If the left back attacked , a midfielder would immediately drop back to left back and the team hold its shape until they could take their original places. That meant the skill levels across the whole team were exceptional. And to top it all off was Cruyff ,immensely creative, quick as lightning and as skilful as any player ever born. Never seen the likes of the football they could play.
Chelsea 04 06 Great team, Very effective, but brilliant to watch for non Chelsea fans? Never Every now and again a team comes along that changes the game, those are the ones that stand out. Ajax 1995 changed how football was played by Europe's top sides. Dutch national sexy football team. Several German national teams. Brazil Holland in the 70s. Barcelona changed the English game in one CL campaign culminating in the destruction of United at Wembley, it was that barca that led to the more passing and movement PL we see today. France Euro and WC, literally changed the game because they were so good they didn't have to play qualifiers for 8 years, and the rules had to be changed. No English sides has ever had those kinds of effects on the global game
Actually I rate Arsenal's 98-02 side played better football than the Invincibles. Just my opinion though.
So no to Spurs 2015 then? Chelsea around 05 with Robben and Duff in full flight were very good to watch when let off the leash. Obviously pragmatism played its part in the big games given Jose's mentality.
some might laugh at this but newcastle under keegan was one of the most exciting teams i watched at the bridge
...was that the season Newcastle were points clear at the top and then Man U's Fergie did a mind bender on Keegan? Keegan had a tantrum and threw the title as a result. At least the current maestro of mind games - Mourinho - is back with us.
Correct, Spurs have have honour don't ya know? Hark at this clown - http://www.shoot.co.uk/category/news/premier-league/the-great-wembley-robbery/#comment-77402 He needs a big hug me thinks. If he knew anything about football he'd know we didn't either need or have to get out of 1st gear last Sunday. It was a stroll by all accounts and I have no doubts West Ham will cause us far more problems tonight than this lot did at the weekend.
True but total football was invented by Rinus Michels and not Cruyff who just played under him in that system.
So none of the Man Utd teams? Very unfairm although I hate to say it. The one with Kanchelskis on the right, Giggs on the left Keane and Scholes in the middle was very good, couldn't say I enjoyed watching them or found them entertaining though. Entertainment wise we must have been good value last season, amazing attacking displays coupled with useless defending.
