He wasn't good enough going forward. The 2nd goal was Schneiderlin's fault. Sarcy twat.
You have to remember how many games has he played? It was the same with Shaw and Chambers. I think it could be something they are told to do until they adjust to the Prem.

Never mind, Bertie will be back next week. Sorry, my bad, didn't mean it to sound like that, poor turn of phrase, I missed Spiders gaff, just a bit too far away, what happened, I thought it was Mattys attempt to clear where he lost his footing, not surprising on the pitch which was getting very wet at the time. Otherwise I think Matty had a good game for a novice, seemed to have a good rapport with Elia in the first half?

Got to get the basics right before you start on the fancy stuff. Defend well and confidence will come and then get forward more. If we want to give youngsters a chance (and I hope we do) then we have to be patent. Most of the time he looked fine.

Targett had more touches than any of our starters. He wasn't getting the ball forward and to feet fast enough. He wasn't linking well with Elia. Perhaps the problem here is I actually rate him and think he was better than today's performance. People are so quick to jump to the defence of players on here. Just because someone criticises a player doesn't mean they think they are ****.

It's called having a different opinion. Mine is I didn't think he was poor today at all. Apart from a few times he had Ibe in his pocket, the slip made me feel gutted for him.

I agree with you. I thought Targett had a decent game.

Targett had a mixed game. Most of the time he looked composed and confident and yet Ibe did him a few times. Having said that, Ibe is going to rip a new one for a few full backs; he looks a hell of a player.

I'd give him a solid 6.5-7/10

I know we are discussing the match, but almost seems mean to criticise players for mistakes (which by definition are unintentional) when they have kept us up the top all season. The difference between games can be so small...like Mane's goal making the QPR game a success.

If you noticed that Elia was a bit quiet in the latter part of the game, he took another blow in the privates, that has got to be painful!

Loved the bit where Henderson slammed into Vic, he looked like he had been hit by a bus, Vic looked like he had just swatted a fly.

Just go home. I feel flat. I feel for the team. 28 seconds into Man City v Newcastle live on telly, a slight touch gets city a penalty. Ours was no softer than that, but I can't help but think Friend **** himself thinking about having to give a red too.

I can't be angry with the team; they tried really hard. I've said for a few weeks now that Pelle doesn't hold the ball up and hasn't done for a long, long time. I've even read people saying he does recently; he doesn't. Not going to batter him though as he does what he can. Overall, we looked very comfortable until we had to create in and around the box. Time to play a fast nippy front three and rather than knock it high and straight if we are clearing out lines, hit in behind the full backs for the road runners to get on to.

We look so solid which is massive credit to Ron, considering Maya looked awful 12 months ago and I feel sorry for young Matty Target; unfortunate error :(

I'm proud we are 5th in the league having not scored at home for three games and dropping 8 points, but I'll struggle to sleep tonight thinking about the ifs and buts.

I can take all that, but what I can't stomach anymore is the utter inconsistency and abysmal standard of referring. Something has to happen. This wonderful game is going to get ruined.

Good post FLT. The standard of refereeing is something I have highlighted on various occasions - it is frankly unacceptable but unsurprising (probably the worst part about it)

On the positive side, I thought that we moved the ball quite a bit quicker than some of the previous games. On the other hand a wonder strike, some terrible referreing decisions, and what looked like a comedy of errors for the second goal mean no points.
But there is no reason to throw in the towel as we will have better days-and refs.

Time for Pelle to start from the bench. (And Long going back to his old club could be handy for us).

Markovic and Davis (and the referee) both gave stellar performances in trying to win the award for "worst performance of the season at St Marys".

What? Davis?????
