IDIOTS in Paris

I'm more ashamed as a human being and an Englishmen that you still get ****tards like this in our Country. The fact they happen to 'support' Chelsea is very much a side issue for me - it could have been supporters of any club.

I'm frankly amazed though that these so called fans are happy to drag the club's name through the mud by association.

 

This thread really shouldn't be hijacked by yet more John Terry bullshit. The fact that Terry was proved not guilty in a Court of law should give you some indication as to why he was 'backed'. It should also go without saying that someone (allegedly) making a one off prickish comment during a football match is completely different to the scenes that video shows.

 

It's hard to believe these scum are associated with our club. From what I saw of the news coverage there were some good pictures of the offenders.The club should make sure they are rooted out and banned forever, just like we did with the "Chelsea head hunters" in the 70's

 

John Terry has been discussed to boredom here, nobody's gonna shift on that incident so has no bearing here.

The issues for me are: These are people travelling as football fans from our country, so they taint all fans to a degree. They were in Paris, which frankly couldn't have been a worse location for this kind of stupidity at the moment. They were pissed, but that's no excuse whatsoever, not is it an explanation. Their actions were reprehensible, and they deserve all the punishment they will rightly receive.

Chelsea, as a club, need to take the lead on this as the morons were Chelsea fans. But other clubs fans MUST give them the space to do this. This isn't an excuse for inter-club slagging, even though we all have idiots capable of doing that. I only hope that we don't get any more of our morons coming over here and posting about your own morons....

 

I am thinking more of the Police doing something about it to be honest, as it is a civil matter, not a football matter.
I would expect the club to condemn these guys, and should they be found, ban them from attending any football matches in Europe (a UEFA ban if you will).
Other than that, its down to the Policia.

In all seriousness though, every club will have some racist fans it's an unfortunate fact. Kick It Out and other organisations are always keen to impress the idea that it's a societal problem, and they're right, but it's time to start really taking this seriously at football level, club level and fan level. This is where KIO rightly comes in for criticism, which they always get very defensive over. This isn't an isolated incident, this won't have been the first time these fans have been outwardly racist and they certainly aren't the only fans that will be vocally and physically racist this season. Simply put they got caught on this ocassion. The more we try and brush it away as a minority of idiots or allow this to become some football issue where rivals use it to stick the boot in and fans of the club become a bit defensive* the more we give cover for these people. If the problem is dealt with passively and the incidents condemned in a reactionary way then we allow the minority to continue to exist and pass on down the generations here.

Who goes to games on a regular basis? And who here knows what procedures are in place to report racist behaviour either at the ground or in travelling to a match? Me neither, I'm sure there are numbers on the KIO website and the club website, if you look hard enough, but that's just passive and unless I'm in minority, it is missing the target audience by a mile. Why can't there be a sticker on the back of every seat with the numbers you can text or call if you see any discriminatory behaviour at the match? It wouldn't be hard to get a quick text off at half time and help the club direct stewards and any evidence gathering equipment to where it's needed. Clubs can't be watching us all each game and neither should we want them too but if they don't have the ability to react to complaints of a discriminatory nature then we're not going to change anything.

Still, we can have all the procedures in place, all the visibility of the message and still get nowhere if no one's reporting it. If that guy hadn't recorded the incident last night would anything be discussed about it? Surely he wasn't the only witness that understood what was going on there. This is the crux of it, the issue is only raised when it's unavoidable, like in this case it tends to be found through footage of the incident. The reason these cases are rare is not because they're one offs but because there's rarely footage or complaints. If we're all honest, do we really each think we'd report other supporters of our club in an incident like this? The honest answers are likely "no, it's grassing", "no, it damages and embarrasses our reputation" and " maybe, it depends on the situation". That's what KIO should be addressing but they don't, they provide quotes for incidents like this and little else they do is visible to the average fan.


* Just so you know, this isn't a cheap shot, I think it's a very natural reaction to have, and besides this is a general point not specific to this particular case.

 

100% I would.
I wouldn't confront 20 pissed up a-holes on a train, especially if I am with my kid, but I would certainly report the incident to the authorities, I dont give a **** what team you support, its only football......what they did was ****ing heinous.

I have just seen the video and I cannot get my head around the fact they were singing a song about it. So its not just a drunken incident its about deep rooted beliefs. They don't represent Chelsea, football or england in my book. Lets not make it a club thing ,no need for Chelsea fans to feel ashamed its they that should feel shame. I doubt they will but when they are exposed, hounded and lose there jobs I wonder if they will look their families in the eye and say its was worth it.

 

Sorry but I find it hard to believe that you've never come across this kind of behaviour then. Even Baddiel admits it happens quite openly and brazenly in certain areas of Stamford Bridge and we've all surely heard the "alternate" versions of Spurs songs at sometime or another, haven't we? I certainly can't say I've acted on even half the ocassions of witnessing racist or ant-semitic or homophobic abuse in football or outside of football. I think there's several culture problem in this respect as everyone always acts as if it's a no brainer but when it comes down to it the evidence suggests otherwise.

 

As a season ticket holder in the MH Lower I can say that I have not heard one racist comment shouted or spoken to anyone fan or player in that time. This behaviour is reprehensible and the club have already come forward to say they will go as far as they can to identify and ban any of these morons.

I haven't heard **** like that since the 70's during the headhunter days and I sure that all clubs had similar groups. These groups don't go away and find some place where their filth is tolerated and an away game of this calibre is a Wembley appearance for this type of scumbag.

We see this behaviour tolerated in the Ukraine, Turkey, Italy, Spain & Holland and it has never entirely been eradicated and never will but as fans of our respective clubs we have a duty to ensure we never get complacent and allow this to ever get a foothold again in our game.

 

What are you going to do ban every poster because they have a different view to yours? All that shows is that you are one sided. I was going to football in the 80's and saw what the majority of chelsea home but mostly away fans were like. I was around when all the old 'Bovver Boys' used to look for as much trouble as they could, so don't tell me how i refer to a clubs fans. As i said i won't tarnish all fans with the same brush however i have been at SB when people were selling NF papers, does that still happen?
