I feel you are being a tad harsh UTR's, I lived in Maidenhead for many years and my mother lived in Lower Early (just outside Reading for those not familiar with the area) until 5 years ago and I always felt that Reading was not such a bad place.....admittedly we were never really there after darkness fell, but the town center was mostly a vibrant place certainly on a Saturday with plenty of Cafe culture......

It's probably no different from most towns and cities these days, parts of Waterford are like the wild west around 2 or 3 am on a weekend, so I'm told.....<whistle>

Lol, no sorry, it was just a bit of light hearted fun. I was just checking the local news website and seeing this made me laugh. When I read about Major League Soccer (no it's FOOTBALL) glamorous places spring to mind like LA, Florida or NYC and he chose Reading.

Fair play to him and a good signing for the fake hoops.,

Yes of course there are worse places to live. Ukraine don't look too clever at the moment...

Could be worse. Could have come to us and lived on white city. (Being tongue in cheek of course before I get slaughtered)

Or the Peabody housing down Dalgarno Gardens W10 where my lot came from. I was only six months old when we moved from there to Reading.

My Granddad lived there until 2007 and in fairness it was not a bad place to live.

    I
I grew up on the small estate opposite the pall mall depository on barlby road. Went to school with loads of kids from peabodys and the suttons. Could be hit or miss but we all played on the railway lands. Or the dump as we called it. Lol.

Mate, I would never slate that area, too much family history and happy memories of that place. I don't get to many games these days but when I do I always take a slight detour down that way for old times sake. I would always pop into the Pav for a jar or two before a game, that was the family boozer.

They used to do the best ever mixed grill in that pub in my opinion up until the early 2000's!
