The whole episode is disgraceful. I have searched the Man U website all morning and have been unable to find an upload of the film to be able to make an informed and cogent judgement.

I for one am disgusted. How are we to be expected, as decent human beings, to form a proper opinion without being given the opportunity to properly review (as many times as might be necessary) this young lady noshing off a bloke in a public bog. Utterly outrageous.

MOST women!!!! No woman wants to be raped....All women want to be respected....just like no man wants to be raped either...all men want to be respected
Miggins women are not a completely different species...

That is why 50 shades is so popular...have you read it Miggins? Do you know who reads it, perhaps it is all men, because I only know of one woman in my circle of friends who has read it, and said it was a very bad read

I haven't read it either...but my understanding (from synopsis etc) is that it is not about rape...it is about domination, which is not rape...it is about CONSENTING adults

What part of the word consent do you not understand...let me put it into a sentence to make it easier for you....

"We on the Not606 QPR board have consented to allow you free range to come on our board and spout nonsense"

I am so glad you are not a male relative of mine, I pity the women you are in daily conatct with

Have to agree with Beth ...... I don't personally know any women who don't want respect.

50 shades has nothing to do with rape & I have read it. The story is an interesting concept but it is very badly written.

50 shades is about rape, she isn't consenting to what happens and is the victim of a rapist, at the start he thinks she's dumped him, so he breaks into her house and rapes her. It isn't ambiguous, it isn't S&M, it's rape, pure and simple, and the women lapped it in their millions. It is an extremely poorly written book but it's appeal to women is the subject matter, because it's their fantasy. People involved with the S&M scene are appalled at it, not at it's childish prose but the fact they're being portrayed as rapists. You can hate what I say, judge me on it if you want, try and claim the higher ground, but it doesn't change the fact that women find rape sexually arousing, they can't help it, it's natural natural selection, survival of the fittest at work.
You can pretend humans are 'different' but that's just wishful thinking, go look outside a pub at the young bucks rutting in the hope of attracting a mate.

Me thinks you need to understand the distinct difference between rape and domination, and it begins and ends with the word 'No'.

Ok I'll bite. I haven't read the book and have no regrets in that, but let's suppose two things you've said are true:

    1) a clear unambiguous rape takes place in the book.

    2) loads of women love the book (there seems to be plenty of evidence for this).

I don't see a causal link here. A large number of women may find other elements of the book (and I'm eager, despite not having read it, to stipulate that the quality of writing is not one of them) enjoyable. Women may even find the idea of the rape itself as it takes place in the story compelling, given that it is a work of fiction and no actual person is suffering from it. It doesn't mean they find the concept of rape inherently erotic. Otherwise you could say the same about a Greek tragedy's popularity being evidence that everyone secretly fantasises about getting murdered. The reality is fear is a very powerful element in drama and storytelling. Some people lap it up. Others would rather read about fluffy little kittens or the personal history of a football manager. There literally is no accounting for taste.

You and Minxy have both read the book and have a different interpretation

I take GREAT exception to your phrase "it's rape, pure and simple, and the women lapped it in their millions. "

rape is the greatest defilement, women do not "lap it up"...I find that phrase incredibly offensive...I pity you and your relationships with women if this is the way you think in any way.
You are a sorry apology of a man.

I am glad you are not one of my QPR brothers

I must have missed the rape <doh>

Rape is a dispicible crime whether it is against a woman or a man

I am female and do not find it sexually arousing ..... in fact quite the opposite ..... it makes me want to be sick. For you to suggest that women reading shades of grey are turned on by rape, shows your lack of understanding about women & sexuality.

There was also nothing in the book that suggested people involved consenually in S&M are rapists

I think Alf Garnett has a point. Some posters are saying they know no female that likes to be disrespected. Well I've come across a few in my time who are with blokes who treat them like sh*t. Others who love the "bad boys". I'd say there are quite a few who like being disrespected. But then again, there's possibly plenty of men who like being doormats too.

I don't know much about this S&M lark. I thought it was a chocolate sweet. But if I'm getting the general gist of it right, I'm guessing the word "No" would be part and parcel of it, no?

(Or maybe I'm just clueless in these matters :frown:)
