I can never knock out support, especially away from home.

Some people don't realise how week supported we are all over the country, credit to any local lads/lassss going down

Agreed - but the inspiration for vocal support is what happens on the pitch. Bit of a chicken and egg thing IMHO
Hopefully the team can get some good results this month - they have the chance to...

The away supporters get behind the team regardless and I dare bet they are shouting and singing encouragement from the ward go, and it was the same at the SoL during the Reid years...I wish I knew the answers as to why it is that the home games are so quiet these days, but I don't buy into the theory about the away fans being moved being to blame as that should have no bearing on people getting behind the team.

They are supporting by attending. 44k on Saturday. Fantastic
From a personal point of view my vocal support is reactive. I shout encouragement and applaud when there is something positive happening

I have a different view to this..For me people attend by attending and support by positively encouraging the team. This happens at away games on an unconditional basis, but just hasn't been happening at home even when we win..

I've noticed some of your posters saying this as well mate. However, the likes Palace and Stoke the crowds are are half of what we get and yet they can create great atmosphere's in all-seater stadiums, so maybe it's a north east thing.
 
I'm not sure about palaces atmosphere being that great to be honest, was down there last season and there's only a small part of that holmesdale end in the corner (where they are all stood incidentally) makes much noise and even that's not a lot. I think maybe they just put the mics down there to enhance it for tele, where as I think at ours they try to keep them away from the more vocal support to try and hide the discontented voices, also in my opinion the reason the leazes corner was broken up

SImple..we need to see some exciting football, if there is a good hard tackle or a quick move forward the crowd stirs...At times with the likes of passback Bridcutt all we get is moans and groans..if AJ or Wickham goes on a run you can sense the undercurrent of noise growing.

At cricket the crowd get excited at 4s, 6s and wickets

At rugby yes you can enjoy a good hard scrum or a pinch at a line out, but there is nothing like running/passing charges to get the crowd excited.

Also with a lot of football on TV, when we turn up at the SoL and we are not as good as??? we feel a little short changed perhaps. When the only time you could see football was when you went live it was different.

I honestly don't think we are any less exciting then many teams in the league including the two I mentioned above and yet their fans can create a raucous positive atmosphere...It does seem to be a problem for the Mags as well though, so perhaps the problem lies within our cultural regional issues...I wish I knew the answers.

Love your user name, mate. George scored the winning goal in the 1952 Cup Final against Arsenal. There wasn't the aggro between Newcastle and Sunderland in those days - people coming in from the pit villages would happily support one team one week, and the other the next week - and I've still got the programme from that final. If I recall, George was a Chilean, and ended up having a sports shop in North Shields.
