http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/30860394 Listen to Mourhino's inteview after his match yesterday - see the link. Compare it to Monk's. Mourhino's is a statment of pragmatism, pure honesty about himself, his team and his work, shame and yet praise and recognition of his opponent's achievement. Monk's statement is one of rejectiung the reality he was a part of. The gap between the two in term of character is enourmous.
A backs to the wall defensive performance followed by a sucker punch from Shelvey saw the Swans gain their first victory against the Saints in the Premier League and our first win in Southampton for 62 years We lost away to Southampton last season, so we are now 12 points better off than the corresponding fixtures last season. You must be referring to your mate Laudrop, the camel Jokey who I hear is jockeying for a position away from his current club....................
12 points better off you say! Are you sure about this, because this cannot be possible with Laudrop not here anymore, surely you must have got your figures wrong?.........................
It was very interesting reading some posts during the Southampton match, particularly in the first half. Many were deserting the ship,'SS Garry Monk',by diving into The Solent. Even Dai was worried, viz,"I worry about where Monk is taking us". Most of the jumpers did so on the spur of the moment, but DragonPhil actually turned up wearing a life jacket,so his priorities and loyalties were laid bare for all to see. An hour or so later,he was seen climbing back up a rope ladder, sans life jacket.
We can't fault GM in terms of the number of points we have gained this year. Can anyone honestly say they are enjoying the way we are playing, it has become boring and our passing and making of space has gone massively backwards, we dont seem to get the ball wide anymore or get at fullbacks. I go to games hoping we can grind something out and hopr we dont put in another poor second half performance hich has happened to often this season.
To some who frequent here, points are the ONLY thing that matters, with performances relegated to the level of almost being irrelevant. We use to play sublime football, attracting attention, praise and envy, from around the world, even finishing in the top ten, winning a major Cup,and going on a European journey. Sadly, those days seem long gone, and we now have to endure quite a lot of dross, but with a few more points in the bag, which pleases the philistines. Nobody respects our style anymore,if indeed we now have any real style to talk about.
] I enjoyed the game yesterday. It's not ce to see us grinding out wins at times. What could be argued was boring in the past was passing the ball around but doing bugger all with it (under Rodgers in the PL). Our problem atm is Routs and Dyer. They offer no width nor pace and as a result this stifles our attacking play. Our passing game is still there, but Monk has made us a hell of a lot tougher to beat. How many times have we been patronised on MofD etc in the past for playing 'nice' football but losing.
We're 9th in the Premier League and I'm loving every minute of it. The 0-5 drubbing by Chelsea was a disaster but it's all part of the rich tapestry of playing in one of the top Leagues in the world. I'm not bored with away wins over Southampton and Man United or home wins over Everton and Arsenal. Keep them coming
